Back in the day, you used to cut an article from the news paper or a magazine that you thought would be of interest to a prospect or client. It was recommended that you highlight, draw arrows, etc on the article. I've heard this called the mutilation technique but my web search only served up very disturbing results.
What is the modern equivalent? I know you can email anyone a link to an article but how can you mark up the article? Photoshop? Save it as an image and import it to Word and "write in the margins?" Is anyone doing this? Thanks Edd

I remember some doing this yeas ago. I think with the change of time and now with self-publishing and social media it, in it's original format, is past its time. But I do think think the same premise is done today with things more direct and offering better results. Rater than sending a article of interest from someone else, why not write your own? Better yet generate some of your own press and media segments and send them those. Much more direct, much more of interest to them, much more opportunistic in the terms of possible and potential benefits and results to you (and them).
I was approached earlier this summer to write a series of articles on the business side of entertainment for the free monthly Magic Road Show. Which I gladly accepted and have been getting great feedback from. So many performers have questions or problems in their operations but are afraid to ask or are afraid to post here because of the way some will respond to them (which I've known for years). Yet the messages I've been receiving show these articles are resonating and helping many. Now I could very easily take this a step further and use these monthly releases in the exact same way you are referring to by sending them to other entertainers who could potentially want to do business with me. The same can happen with other press and media segments. You can send them to you past client, new prospects, etc. I feel this is today's version of the old "mutilation technique" you are referring to (I don't remember ever hearing that term though). Btw, are you the same Ed form Chicago that has signed up for my Las Vegas Entertainment Business seminar workshop next week? |

WordPress has a plug-in called "Press This" that you can install in your browser as an extension. The icon is a metallic, 3-dimensional looking button. It allows you to capture clips from any webpages you are reading and insert them immediately into your blog, web-page, etc. I've only used it once or twice, and that was quite some time ago. To the right person this may be useful. I usually did what Mindpro just suggested, however, and used the clip to create my own content and then reference or link to the other article if necessary or for crediting purposes.

If you wish to add some punch to a printed document, file, or website, you might be looking for something like "Copydoodles."
http://www.copydoodles.com/ The company was started by a (non-magician) friend of the late Eric Paul, named Mike Capuzzi. That's how I heard about it. I've heard of some magicians who use this product to enhance their marketing materials. - Donald
