Hi guys,
Secrets Of Mindfulness For Magicians By Mason Mess which should be released this week. It's an ebook + audiobook that will teach you how to develop a mindfulness practice (using the most effective techniques currently being taught) and use it to supercharge your magic (and the rest of your life). These are hardcore, pragmatic meditation techniques that took several years to learn but will be taught in the book without any fluff, no New-Agey lingo or weird belief systems thrown into the mix. Since only the most effective techniques have been distilled down to their essentials, it won't take you years to learn and master. The book starts out teaching you literally everything you need to know about meditation then quickly moves into turning your sleight of hand practice sessions into deep mindfulness practice sessions. Performance, creativity and practice are all discussed in-depth. Here are a few other things taught in the book: 1. The quickest way to relax your mind and body 2. 2 techniques for getting into "the zone" on demand 3. The secret to blocking out 99% of random thoughts (can be used anytime, not just when meditating) 4. Speed up the learning of difficult sleight of hand tricks 5. Short circuit your critical mind in seconds 6. Become more natural as a performer 7. Easily connect with your audience by cultivating empathy 8. Develop a Zen-like work ethic when it comes to practice (or anything else) 9. Learn the secrets of jhana junkies to create good feelings in just a few minutes 10. Use scattered attention to build super-focus If anyone is interested in this type of thing, PM me for a review copy. I'll be sending out 3 free review copies to the first 3 people who PM me (when the book is completed in a few days). Jason |

I'm happy to see this kind of attention brought to our performances, and being performance ready. The mind is an interesting thing, and I never thought to marry the two. I haven't looked him up (maybe I should), but is the instructor a magician or practitioner first?

Since linear time is an illusion, he is at the same time a practioner and a magician. "What do we want? Time travel!!!! When do we want it? It's irrelevent!"
Jason Messina is the creator of Tube, Tube 2, WI and a many other great routines and ideas. He is also a trained practitioner of Wim Hoff method and Zen meditation. It is rumored he knows where Paul Harris is hiding, but he won't tell me where. Jason is a deep thinker and he likes pizza. James Quote: On Nov 12, 2016, Nathan Alexander wrote:

Ha! Thanks James. Shows you what I know (not much). I thought it was Jason was saying it was by someone else. Either way, I'm fascinated by the blurb and look forward to hearing more in-depth discussion about it.

Thanks for the interest Nathan - James pretty much covered the history except the part about Paul Harris, I have no idea where he's hiding and no proof that he even exists Just using a different name for magic stuff to keep separate from some of my other writing.
As for history, always been interested in mindfulness/meditation but was never very successful practicing. Would always wind up spacing out until I learned this method. Magic definitely came before all that anyway. But then I became obsessed with meditation and very interested in the idea of getting enlightened - which is a very loaded word that doesn't mean what most people think it means. If there's enough interest, that topic will be addressed in a follow-up book. I spent many years studying with monks and reading every book I could get my hands on, and so this book is meant to be a very simple distillation of all that information so a normal person can get practicing right away, avoid all the pitfalls I encountered and start to integrate the techniques into their magic and everyday life. Look forward to hearing thoughts once it's released. |

I've gotten a bunch of emails and messages on this - the book and audio will be delayed by a few more days. There is a section of the book that I'm currently working on expanding, to make sure you can get started with practice as soon as possible. I'm expecting this will be done for the holiday weekend.

Still getting a lot of emails about this, thank you again for the interest. Very happy with the way it has turned out. Finishing up the editing and recording of the audiobook. Page count so far is over 80 pages. Review copies will go out tomorrow and it will be available for sale soon after.
Just note, this is first and foremost a practical guide to real world mindfulness that actually works consistently. Later chapters describe exactly how to use it in magic practice, performance and for creativity. Then we talk about how to turn your entire life into the practice and give practical ways you can do this. The goal is to be able to consistently and reliably turn any activity, especially magic performance into a practice of this flow state. Certainly people have recommended this in the past, but few have provided actual working information about how to achieve this. Well, until now, as they say It will be discounted for first few days at $15 for the book and $20 if you want to add-on the audiobook. Then the price will go to it's regular retail at $25 for the book/audiobook bundle. A lot of work has gone into this to make it as accessible as possible to anyone who wants to learn the real secrets of mindfulness as I learned them for the last 10 years from books and monks. This first book deals specifically with developing concentration, as it's the foundation for learning anything else. We do touch on a lot of other related areas, but it's so important to learn the basics first. If there is enough interest, there will be at least one other book in the series, tentatively titled Inner Secrets Of Mindfulness for Magicians and it will focus on an aspect of meditation called Insight Practice. If anyone has any questions, let me know. Be well, Jason |

Dear Jason:
This looks very interesting! Could you tell me how this compares to the "Inner Game of -" series of books by Gallwey? Thanks

Hi Max,
I know of those books but haven't read them so not sure I can give a good answer. I will say this though, most of the books I've read that are similar tend to fall into the same pattern of telling you what you should do, but not giving you specific step by step techniques for actually doing them. Everyone knows you have to concentrate to get better at something, but there are always two issues 1. Actually doing the thing 2. When you get around to doing the thing, actually being able to focus and get into a flow state. The major technique in this book is one very specific solution to this problem. The thing I love about the technique is that you can use it for everything (and I do) and once you learn it, the instructions are always the same every time regardless of situation. I repeat this instruction in the last line of the book, and at the end of the day this simple instruction is the only one you need to remember to get results (after you've mastered the simple system). The good news is the book is now finished. Audiobook is still a few days out. The book will be released later today and review copies are going out soon. |

Is there anything additional in the audio book that isn't in the ebook? That being said, I prefer learning from audio. But either way, looking forward to hearing more.

Hi Nathan,
The written book and the audio version will have the same content. I personally like having the ability to switch between reading and listening, so figured I would provide that option. For better or worse, the technique taught isn't really suited for a guided meditation type audio. |

Thanks again for all the interest, the digital print version is finally ready below. The audiobook will be released later this week, but you can purchase it at a discounted price now (it's the second dropdown option).
http://www.secretmagicstuff.com/books/se......gicians/ I've sent out the promised review copies, so hopefully some will go up in the next few days. There is a lot of material to digest. Just want to emphasize, this is first and foremost a book on mindfulness/meditation - you'll have to do a little bit of working mastering the system before you can use it in the practice and performance of magic. With just a little bit of practice, this can have a very big impact on your entire life. Enjoy! |
