When the cat was in the bag was it both alive and dead? or is a BC cat both there and not there depending on who is observing it? I'm confused now.....

So when is the news letter coming out to inform those who signed up? Seems to be released here first
|
|||||||||
Bogbadger Special user England 626 Posts |
It's not been released yet. Those of us who have signed up for the newsletter are just wasting time together here talking nonsense in the hope that it will make the wait easier. Awaiting a Prof BC release is much like waiting for Christmas, both wonderful and magical yet prone to a spot of over excitement and the occasional childish tantrum. But unlike Christmas it will all be worth the time and cost and there won't be as much indigestion, family arguments or the smell of over boiled sprouts lingering in the air. Mum....Dad....is it nearly here yet?
So the cat is partly here and partly not....perhaps all that we can see is a big wide grin.......sigh! |

To answer all speculation:
My cat is both there and not-all-there, whether perceived, unperceived, imagined, or merely speculated upon. My wife begs that the cloning plans be scrapped and scrapped at once. She hints darkly at concerns over toxic waste. Dan writes to say that (despite tracking information indicating Royal Mail's readiness to deliver) he has not yet seen the package destined for his side of the pond. We have therefore agreed to press ahead with the launch, albeit unprepared on the UK side, and let me take care of posting for the time being from the states. To that end, I have sent Dan some of the art work and photos that I took for the performance manual. I wish to state categorically that Dan does a far, far better job with photography and product presentation, so if you see that the images are not up to the usual Lebanon Circle standard, please place the entire blame upon me . . . or, no, Royal Mail. Better. I do not precisely know Dan's process, but I *suspect* that the announcement will go out via newsletter first to those who have preregistered to receive purchasing details and only afterward will the launch be made public (provided units remain available after the preregistration announcement). Now, where did that cat go . . . BC

Thanks for the update Prof BC. With a potential five days of postal strikes at Crown Post Offices next week in the UK it'll take the dark arts to get anything anywhere in the UK before Chrimblemas. let's just all be patient and assume that if we are lucky enough to be one of the 100 it might not arrive until the new year and then anything earlier will be a lovely surprise.
Just take pity on Dan queued up in a post office in deepest darkest Kent behind Mrs Trellis sticking stamps on her Christmas cards one by one by one......"cashier number 4 please" Remember: "Time is an illusion, Christmas doubly so" (apologies to the late great DNA) |

Hence my distaste for pricing my own work, it unfailingly makes someone unhappy and then I feel miserable. My apologies, pawel. Sincerely. I know that you were excited about this effect, but the truth is (especially with only a limited number to sell) my margins are really quite thin. Creating boutique magic effects is far from a high-profit enterprise, and what profit is earned goes straight into R&D for the next effect and helps to pay for the many, many blank walls one hits in creating effects that never see the light of day. I genuinely wish it were otherwise, but it simply is not. I am sorry for it, truly. BC

To be a bizarre magician, one must be both the artist and art collector.

My apology is sincere, pawel, and I do not mean to call you out. You have a legitimate point, and it always makes me feel miserable to realize the truth of it. I have often spoken of the situation with my fellow wizards, Dan, Vic, Chris Gould, Perkins, &c. and the terrible truth of the fact is that I (and they) get to the end of a hard-fought creation process, add up what it has cost, and grow a little sick at what the final price per piece is going to have to be.
Chris (my mentor in so much) said it best when he pointed out, long ago, that although a high price is a shame from one perspective (not everyone can afford some things), in the end the boutique business model is best for our particular art form because, unlike mainstream magic, it means that (even amongst our elite little dark group) everyone has different pieces in different acts rendering us each truly unique as opposed to the legions of 'dove guys', 'coin guys', or 'card guys' that are all a little bit interchangeable (from an audience's perspective, I mean--of course some of these guys are masterful geniuses at what they do, but their acts do tend to blur together in the public imagination). Just consider ECSS or any other Bizarre gathering: devoid of the endless parade of dove-pan acts and feather-flower finales following a legion of canes (appearing, disappearing, colour-changing, dancing) and half a hundred silk acts, a convention of bizarrists is an unending kaleidoscope of new presentations and unique effects whether it be a Celtic god with umbrellas or a dapper chappie lighting a tea sachet for a levitation, a Vampire illustrating a bloody tale of death with Tarot cards or a dead-on entertainer bringing Poe to life, we are united by our differences. Boutique offerings help us to retain our individual and corporate uniqueness. Chris Gould is gold. From my perspective, to gild the lily, a high-end price-point also helps to ensure that the YouTube teen-dorks aren't out there exposing effects within the week they are released. Necessary evil, perhaps, or maybe a blessing in disguise. Probably a bit of both. BC

Be thankful you are not paying in Canadian dollars at 30% more Additionally, there are maybe 30-50 people on average that buy these things. Outside of collectors that may make up another 50. We are a super small segment of the magic industry.

Though the price is more than I had in mind it's honest and there is nothing wrong with it. It's just the Xmas time and might be hard to find some extra money after buying Xmas gifts. It's the time of the year when money is quickly spent. I will still try my best as I know it's worth it. I have very specific taste (I wouldn't call it sophisticated at all). I don't make money of my performances so there is no return on things I buy. I do some parties but it's mostly for friends of friends and for fun. I don't call myself magician or mentalist. I like to think of myself as story teller with a bizarre touch. I buy expensive things sometimes and You and Dan are my favourites. Sometimes you can buy great things for £5 as well. I don't always buy from the shop. I have some things second hand. I sell as well as some things look great but I find them not to my liking. That was the case with Kadar for me. It looks great and many people love it. I can't find it useful for my "style" so I sold it. With things like that you can always sell. I don't make profit out of it. Not to leave bad impression of Chris' stuff I'm proud owner of Hedge Tarote which I love and will never sell. I bought it second hand and it was expensive but so worth it! Quote:

It's good to keep these things a little underground plus you need to make profit out of it. By looking at it it's very small anyway. Please keep on surprising us. If we can't afford some things we enjoy reading about them anyway!
