I got to thinking about using a different object than the hummer card since I am not quite satisfied with the wild spinning motion you have to do to make that work- I mean I think the spinning part kind of gives it away. After danarun's very detailed reply in the other thread on using different props to open, it jogged my mind that I could use something other than a card for that bit Smile.

I think it has a more mystical effect if the object doesn't spin.

I am thinking a glowstick could be great here for my dark environs since I noticed that anything flourescent kind of forces people to look.

Or just a pen if I don't want TOO many eyes on me- because more eyes is more social pressure = more nerves at my early stage Smile. I guess if I have my back to the rest of the room then only people who I wanted to see it would see it.

A credit card, perhaps?

Crumpled dollar bills are a popular 'borrowed object' for levitation.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.

Many of these items have already been invented and are being sold by IT websites.

Look at Steve Fearson's website.

Michael Ammar has the Floating Bill effect.

I remember the walk away floating bill as well.

I like the idea of having your pen float up, out of your pocket and into your hand. After writing with the pen, you toss it back into the air and it floats down into your pocket again.

One of my favorite levitations was DelRay's card box. He removed the deck of cards and then casually put the empty box back on the edge of his table where it "accidentally" dropped to the floor. He noticed it on the floor, waved his hand or snapped his fingers (I forget which) and the box leaped back up from the floor to the table. I said to myself, "That's how a REAL magician OUGHT to behave!"

Jim, I love that description of the card box! I agree, that's what real magic should look like.

Other things to levitate. Depends on what your environment is. Jim Tyler has a floating soda straw in his Pockets Full of Miracles. You can also use a feather. That has Harry Potter connections, if that matters to you. Small mystical charms. An Okito Voodoo doll. Make it stand, then rise up from your hand. Cigarette. Put it in your mouth, it floats away as you try to strike a match. Toothpicks. A toy helicopter. A Dr. Strange doll. Your choice, of course.

But really, what is your purpose for levitating anything here? Are you just wanting to get attention by doing something magical so people approach you for a trick or are you wanting something else? Let your purpose drive your decision about what to present.
