I have heard about an effect that Tommy Wonder does with an egg canary and a lemon, I think. I have bought the books of Wonder and nothing's in there and I have looked in the contents of his DVD's but nothing's there. Can anyone help?

In short, he vanishes a canary, vanishes an egg, vanishes a lemon, and then tries to but doesn't succeed at vanishing an orange. He cuts open the orange and inside is the lemon, he cuts open the lemon and inside is the egg, he breaks open the egg and inside is the canary.

I love Tommy Wonder's work and I've never seen this effect.

I thought it was Bongers...
And I was not aware that routine of Tommy Wonder's was available in print or for sale. There are some variations in print that he worked from. As usual he does things his way...

Very true Jonathan. Bongers was his real last name.

Man, what is it about those Dutch magicians and their names? Kaps was Bongers, Wonder was Jos Bema and that wasn't even his real name! And don't forget Flip and Peter Pit. Must be the wooden shoes.
The orange, lemon, egg and canary has been around forever. Richardi did it for years, Johnny Thompson used to do. Copperfield of course, Jame Dimmare, Joseph Gabriel and Doug Malloy (who sells it). There are so many possibilities with this effect. John Thompson has some of the best (unpublished) work on this effect.

Yup, it's an old effect that many magicians have performed, but Wonder's version is incredible.

Didn't a F. Kapps get all of Fred Kaps material?
Larry if you care to share I am interested in any info you have on Wonders material. I have not seen this effect, but Gordon 'Mike' Miller previously of Abbott's Magic Company said he used his body servante in his book for the vanishes. To bad no one hires him to present his stage act over here. They always hire him for his close-up magic. He must refuse to show it for magicians. |

He just did his stage act for us at the WMS. He has done it many times here in the USA.
Re: The trick. He has his own presentation, so I suggest anyone that wants to do the trick work out their own way. Don't pinch someone else's intellectual property.

I agree with Pete if Tommy has not published anything on this there is a reason. He must not want anyone else to do the routine.
Please don't use Tommy's routine or even part of it come up with your own. |

To my knowledge, Tommy Wonder has not published his version, but apparently he performs it (without revealing the secret) on a PAL tape available at http://www.dovemagic.com/Videos/videosPAL.html . I have absolutely no interest in performing the effect myself, using his or any other method, but I do enjoy seeing magic performed well and Wonder's performance of the effect is great.

This routine is for sale.
It was advertised in last months Magic magazine actually. It is sold by Doug Malloy of Malloy ModernMagic. Here is a link: http://www.malloymodernmagic.com/orange_lemon_egg.htm It's only a mere $1295!

Guardian,
Tommy Wonders is much different then the Malloy trick. I have never had the pleasure to see it performed by Wonder, but I picked up bits and pieces here and there. He uses more sleight of hand in his verson, not a trick table. I could be wrong of course. Pete, I also am interested in seeing the trick. I have my own version. When something is hyped one likes to know what that hype is all about. Not all of us have the connections that you do in the magic inner circle. |

Having seen Tommy Wonder's stage routine lots of times I can only say it is truly a piece of art.
Since it is his current act it is only logical he does not describe it. (I remember a quote from Mac King which applies here: If it is still in my act it is obviously not in my (lecture)notes.) Of course there are excellent versions commercially available of this trick, so go for them. For the really interested, much of the fabulous work he put in his stage act is actually described in his books. But I only realised that after reading it over and over and seeing his act over and over. And when that hit me I admired him and his work even more! Truly a classic in our field.

I also suggest trying to see a clip of Richardi's version.

Oh C'mon Pete,
Don't tell 'em about the really good stuff. Oh well. Yup, the Richiardi routine is pretty wicked... Best, Dorian Rhodell |

Why does someone always think that because I want to see the effect that I want to copy it. I just love seeing great magic. is that a crime

Perhaps the capital letters in the thread start, and the lack of clear request helped people get the wrong idea?

Is the effect described in any classic books? Tarbell, ect, perhaps?
Thanks. Jim
