One thing that's good for 2016 is there is not a clear run away trick which is good for the art !!

Here are my choices for the best purchases of the year.

1. Color Match Pocket - Pro Mystic
2. Little Door- Roddy McGhie
3) Rubicon- Gregory Wilson

Thurston:
Craig Filicetti from Pro Mystic because he continues to set the "gold standard" for technical support, after-sales service, and fair business practices.

Honorable mentions: Wiki Test by Marc Kerstein (this is great and I don't even like apps!), All About Eve book test by Steve Dela, Spell-O-Matic by Liam Montier, Position Impossible by Brent Braun, Flictionary by Steve Haresign, Fall by Banachek and Phillip Ryan, and Rainbow by Higar (the Polaroid gimmick technology only).

As a suggestion, I would like to see the format changed next year to something like this:

Choose one for each category, and If you don't have a choice simply put N/A (not applicable).

Best Magic Trick
Best Mentalism Effect
Best Utility Prop
Best DVD
Best Download purchase
Book of the Year (E-Book's included)
Lecture of the year (Penguin or At the Table)
Thurston Award

I would have to guess

Little door
Toibox

I do not own either. My vote is based on watching demos of all of these effects.

I would have probably added "Murray Mint" to my list based on what I've seen, but as we know it has not been released in the USA yet.

Have you not seen how many votes "Little Door" has gotten compared to others? I never heard of it until the voting started. I guess it is a good looking effect. I have a couple other effects already that use a very similar gaff so I have no real interest in picking it up but many have since the voting started. It seems like out of sight, out of mind takes place in the voting too. People seem to remember the latest releases over the early releases over the year.

Have you taken the time to read the rules? Very first post on page 1 of the thread. Feb 1 is when the voting ends and (this point will likely be moot by the time the first comes around) but you must have 50 legitimate posts to even enter a vote. There are many voters that are not near that yet (you having 44 as I answer this will likely make the mark in time)

The contest has its flaws, it always has. This year however has seen a lot less controversy than the last couple though. Hopefully next year there will be more categories. I know I am going to take some time over 2017 and PM Jamie some ideas (it's his contest and he can do as he pleases but I will still send a few ideas) Smile

I hear what you're saying but Little Door was actually released in February and has been selling steadily since then. It's only recently that Penguin have taken over production. As far as I can see many of those who have voted for it have purchased it from me or through Penguin when I was producing it. Also, I'm curious about what other effects use "a very similar gaff". Feel free to pm me Smile

If it's not too late, I would like to change my third vote for WikiTest instead of Position Impossible.

It's hard when an effect is released at the very end of the year to see how it holds up, but after now having some time to perform it, it absolutely deserves my vote.
