Was curious if anyone had any advice for someone who wants to advertise using a mini cooper. I get a lot of people looking at my car anyways so I figured why not include some ads on it. I don't want to do a full body wrap, but maybe using magnets on the doors and ads in the rear window will be good enough for a start.
My target demo is more upscale adult venues (corporate work, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, restaurant magic, etc.) Was curious the best thing to include in such an ad as well as things to avoid! Also anyone have any good leads on nice products to purchase for these ads? Best prices obviously! Please and thank you!

I don't think that demographic generally finds magicians on signs in car windows.

Yes, your methods of advertising must match the intended target market. You might pickup some kids party leads.

Great advice! What other means of marketing would be better then do you think?

It all starts with first impressions. Do you think your web page is tailored to the markets you seek? I have not looked at it, I am just asking a question is all.
I mean I just don't know how corporate work relates to bar/bat mitzvahs. I am not saying you are doing anything wrong, just asking questions. I am not taking a position of any sort.

Karrell Fox had a "half dozen" different business cards! One for corporate clients (although, most of his corporate clients KNEW him already! --Auto Show "tours" etc.
He had a card for kid birthday parties and Cub Scout Blue & Gold Dinners (W0W THE WIZARD)' He had a card for Credit Union Annual Meetings, and Golf & Bowling League Dinners. I think he had a card for college concerts also! (He did a "W..C. Fields impersonation, or a mental act, "Journey to the Center of Your Mind") >>>As Bill noted, just above, TARGET MARKETING!<<< His fee for Auto Shows, was MUCH more than his birthday party fee! He had a different prop case for each act. (He used the Vanishing Cane in most of his acts. Each act case had every prop needed. So, there was a Walsh Cane in almost every case!)

1. My first suggestion is that you find a professional artist who does graphics. Explain where you are with your talent. He might be able to find the right logo that fits your needs.
2. Magnets on vehicles are not a bad investment. Get your logo printed on magnetic signs. See how far the above takes you. You will never know unless you try. Kyle P. is a magician member here. He makes logos to full time. |

If you use magnetic signs on your vehicle, make sure you follow the directions and not make the mistake I made. I have had two sets of magnetic signs blown off on the freeway. My fault entirely. I know that people saw the signs because I did get some comments from customers. There are better ways to market though, and I agree with Dannydoyle's comments.

But when those certain individuals are interested in having a magician, your name pops out the most. They are going to put you ahead of others because your name is in their subconscious. When they look for a magician on the internet you will have a head start. Because of the type of magic business you are targeting for I advise you to get a magnetic sign with a color background that matches your car. Have a black silhouette with a man in a top hat holding a cane. Have your name, "quality magic" and your phone number/website. No more content because of the size of your vehicle. |

If you are looking to target upscale kids parties then go for it, I have no idea if it works or not. Corporate work is WAY different than birthday party work. Upscale restaurants are far different from bar mitzvah work. You asked about what to "avoid"? Well for me, and this is just me, I would avoid trying to cross over too much on one car. To paraphrase Vernon incorrectly, "Confusion is not branding".

I guess the question I would ask in response to the one posed by the OP, is why? Why do you ask? Why would you consider this type of advertising/promotion? I think by first identifying the "whys" and reasons/purposes for this would lead to a clearer consideration. Perception is everything...not yours, your potential prospects, market's and clients.

Just a personal opinion. I think that a magnetic sign on a car "screams" small-time, home-based business... AKA not a professional.

The old expression, "Something is better than nothing", isn't really true. Sometimes taking a certain action, or marketing in a certain way, can harm you, or slow you from reaching your destination.
It really should be, "Something right, or something appropriate, is better than nothing." For example -- There have been times where I saved up for a brochure designed by a professional, and printed professionally, rather than attempting my own design and attempting to print it on my desktop printer. - Donald

Then one often makes an assessment based from this position of inaccuracy - "I tried that, it doesn't work." Same holds true for press coverage. You will hear some uninformed say "there's no such thing as bad press" or the similar "all press is good as long as they spell your name right." Lol. Try telling that to O.J., Mel Gibson and Bill Cosby to name just a few. |

I would think, if a person wanted to increase their "name recognition", having a sign on your vehicle is one way to do that.
Then there is the problem, when someone says your name, "Who is he"? Answer, "He is the guy that drives around town with his name on his car." I do think this can be used, just as the thousands of other business use them, but hoping an executive from a company would see it, and then respond, is not very likely. In other words, not very good for Target Marketing you intended clients. Waiter on the Way, we all eat. Birthday Parties, we all have birthdays. Plumbing, if we own a home at some point, we will need a plumber. And on and on, advertising on a vehicle is for the masses, that will at some point need your service. |

Everything you do brands you in one way or another. As Bill points out not always in the way we think.
I know of one guy that has branded himself for kids shows. Van and all Problem is for an adult market, which he is trying to crack, he is a joke. It can have disadvantages.
