Hello all,
Im quite new so please forgive my ignorant questions. Up to this point all ive really done is a little hand/finger flasher stuff. However there is a ren fair coming soon and I will be a participant as a fire fairy and am looking for some easy and fun magic tricks. I was thinking about maybe using a flash effect like rick hasletts "flash it" or even "touch it" and producing the candy fireballs for the kids. Any opinions/alternative ideas/ technical help on how this can be achieved either with no sleves or arm warmers only is VERY much appreciated. Thanks!

Be careful about doing fire effects anywhere. After the disasters in Rhode Island and Chicago, the Fire Marshalls are really bearing down, nationwide.

Make sure that the Fair has liability insurance to cover you and them, make sure that your audience is out of range of your gimmicks and make sure that you don't point anything that goes flash (other than a FISM gimmick) at anyone.

Sorry to sound harsh, but a friend just got into (and quickly out of) some very serious trouble with the law over doing fire effects at an outdoor event in California. Another got a stern talking to and notice to cease and desist at a bar in suburban Chicago.

Just a heads up from an old hand at the Ren Faire circuit.

Just a comment about the last sentence. I would put it "make sure that YOU have liability to cover yourself and them..."

Performers liability insurance is easily available thru the IBM or SAM for very reasonable premiums. Both are $2,000,000.00 policies with a $1 Million per occurrence.

Do not rely on the ren fair insurance to cover you. It may very well pay off then sue you to recover any monies it paid out plus expenses for sueing you. So carry your own insurance any time you perform.
