I am new to the Café, and someone told me I should post these stories. Hope y'all enjoy, and sooner or later I will be caught up on the weirdness you folks are telling.

I actually shocked myself yesterday at work. I was doing a four card revelation type trick. ("I normally do this with three cards, I've done it with two, but for you ladies, I'll try it with four.") Anyway, after I had gotten all four cards collected.....I DROPPED THE DECK EVERYWHERE! And for once, alas, it WAS the part I was controlling. Uh oh. I looked at them (five girls and a lady) and said, well, we can start over....or I can give this a shot. What do you think? Naturally they said go for it. I dare say I was impressed with myself when I actually improvised my way out of THAT one!

Though nothing to this day has ever shocked me more than the day, right at the climax of the trick, I DROPPED THE INVISIBLE DECK! All over the floor. Figuring no guts, not glory, I went for it anyway--and NAILED it. At that point, they were impressed...but not nearly as much as I was!

Speaking of serendipity, this has now happened to me three times in four years. A card will continuously keep showing up (gee, I have no idea how...), and then we move on....and someone says, well, show me that card again! And I am about to deliver a smart-aleck answer to them, and I cut the deck....RIGHT TO the card in question, and catching this out of the corner of my eye, I deliver a somewhat different smart-aleck comment, along the lines of a "Happy now? May I move on?" type comment. Never fails to floor them...and fool the hell out of me!

Also yesterday (yesterday was a good day for serendipitous magic, it seems), I had done a trick with one person, and we had finished. I moved on to the second person, and as sometimes happens, the second person repeatedly got the card from the first trick (again, I have no idea how that might have happened....). Alright, that is all well and good, but then I laid out the cards on the table and told them get any one you want (an attempted psychological force which sometimes works). Well, they took a different card, but of course, let me see it. "See? Not the Queen of Clubs!" "Um, that's great....but let's review the first rule of card magic. When you take a card....DON'T let the magician see it!" Everyone got a laugh out of that, so I told them to take another one, still hoping to nail the psychological force. Frustrated, the spectator just started mixing up all the cards on the table (what I call the Kindergarten Shuffle). I figured well, the p.f. is gone now. After doing that, though, the person reached into the pile that had been the deck, took a card....and freaked. Yep, you guessed it....as luck would have it, they took the Queen of Clubs again! I just smiled, and the whole table went nuts. We moved on from there, but boy was that guy shaken by that one. Heh. Heh. Frickin' heh.

I was working on this last year when I had nothing to do and I have a theory:

if you look at a card a number of times and keep track of its location in the deck a number of times (as in the effect you were speaking of), after you're done, your subconscious will continually keep track of the card and when you cut the deck, will allow you to cut directly to that card.

Huh.

It's called the "Natural Cut" Effect if I'm not mistaken...

A very slight deformity in that one card (a crimp or bend, very slight even...)will make it easier for the deck to get cut right where that card is...

Or it could just be dumb luck OR even...

MAGIC...

Anyways, good on you...

One day I was performing at the fire house where my brother works. I had just finished a effect and the captain said no if he pulls the jack of spades out of his pocket I'm geting out of here. Well the very trick I went into my wallet to get a card for star warp and it just happened to be the jack of spades. I wish you could have seen his face! I don't think I have ever been cussed so much and enjoyed it!
