Tp answer Steve's orginal post: where can he get to see them performing?
Unfortunately, there are few public venues where you can see magic, especially close-up. John Lenehan (an American living in England...!) did do Monday Night Magic, but its seasons were (are) sporadic. Both he and the show's producer are very busy and I gather it was more a labour of love than anything they made money out of. Besides, it wasn't close-up (apart from occasional walk-around in the interval). Paul Daniels has been performing a tribute to Max Malini recently in Edinburgh and London. Small audience, very expensive, and on the night I was there he sleepwalked through it. There were lots of magicians in the audience, and it came across as much like a club lecture as a performance. Daniels was something of a hero of mine; the night I saw him he was as charmless as could be. Has he lost it? The same theatre (Jermyn St) is launching a season of Friday and Saturday night magic shows. Close-up? DOn't know... Watch out for Jerry Sadowitz. He never advertises his shows to magicians (he hates them at his shows!) but last year did one (or two?) brief runs at the SOho Theatre. Astounding stuff, all close-up and not for the easily offended. Michael Vincent is a superior card handler but you're only likely to see him at a convention. Guy Hollingworth seldom even does that. These guys tend to perform privately. To see lots of close-up magic you need to go to a convention, really. Check out http://www.magicweek.co.uk. Good luck! |

Any possible way to watch Guy Hollingworth's live performance in UK? Any web site sell tickets? Phone number to call?
I wish that my honeymoon trip to Europe at the end of this year can fulfill my little wish.
Most memorable moment - with Maestro Juan Tamariz & Consuelo Lorgia in FISM Busan 2018.

Isn't Steve Valentine from the England?
I've only seen him briefly on video, but I thought his magic and performance skills were excellent, he had a sharp wit similar to Bill Malone's and he was truly funny. He's on my short list of people I would like to watch perform. |

An up and coming young magician from England is my good friend, Andi Gladwin. He fooled us constantly at the recent TSD Convention. Be on the lookout for him.

A Little advice to all.
This thread, like a similar one on the other side of the world, is starting to wind in and out of topic in relation to the nature of the original post. I forgot to mention Chris Power, Shiv Duggal, Danny Buckler and Andy Nyman all skilled in close up, sleight of hand, magic with cards...among other things. Also my good friend Marc Spelmann was always a very fine cardman. I fear, though, that he may have gone down some evil esoteric path since our Davenports days and currychips/ beer binges. |

Sadowitz is the best I've ever seen in person. That includes Hollingworth.
the only comparable card magic Ive seen was Lennert Green. Jerry has done stuff with cards I have NEVER seen anyone else come close to doing. |

...I want to get to watch the best performers. I live near London, UK. Hi Steve, Your question is about the best performers in your area. May I second all the recomendations for Michal Vincent- he has grace, class and talent. He really is a top performer, not just an excellent card mechanic with mediocre presentational skills. I saw a show by the American Steve Cohen at the Waldorf Hotel, London, last year and I believe he may be doing another run this year. I think the show was called "Chambre Magic" - there are threads about the show on this site. I attended a fantastic lecture by a man called Mike O'Brien at my local magic club in 2002. I believe he is based in the London area. Excellent and humorous with cards and coins mainly in the lecture I saw. John Derris visisted recently and was also very good. The Magic Circle have "Meet The Magic Circle Evenings" where you could see several accomplished profesionals work. I got the impression that a several notable close-up magicians work at "Grosvenor House" - I don't know if this is a hotel or what, but it is in your area. I'm sure the magic circle could advise you about this. Finally, if you have the money to spare you could consider hiring a top level performer for a private party! Just a thought - hope this helps. Best
Andrew
