Rock, Paper, Winner – Mark Elsdon
$14.75 http://www.bigblindmedia.com/rock-paper-winner-ebook/ The Hype: Rock Paper Winner - a brand new, minimalist approach to Rock Paper Scissors that uses just your business cards. All selections are done out of your hands and are completely free. And still you are able to predict the exact outcome with 100% certainty. No gimmicks, no 'process', no dual reality, equivoque or any other nonsense. Three business cards, two players, one guaranteed outcome. The performer chooses nothing, but predicts everything! Everything can be examined and given away at the end. In fact you should - they're your business cards! My Take: There has been a surge lately of Rock, Paper , Scissors routines and the majority of them have been based on the work of Lewis Carroll's writings on the truth teller and liar problems. Now these are very deceptive and I applaud the pure cleverness of how the logic works but I have had a problem. These routines depend on your spectator being able to remember whether he told the truth or lied on the first question and be able to answer properly on the second. I have found that a lot of people don't have the attention span necessary. Rock, Paper, Winner does away with this problem. A few years ago, Paul Richard's Elmwood Magic put of a release called "Free Will" by Deddy Corbuzier. I have had the pleasure of knowing Paul for a number of years and always spend time at his booth at any convention we both attend. He always fools me and I did purchase Free Will from him. Since that time, the basic premise has been borrowed by others. "Fair Play", a gimmicked version by Steve Haynes (released by Paul Harris) is an extremely clever gimmick and Steve Dela's "Will to Read" has recently been released. However, each of these routines (including the original) requires you to carry props and cannot be done impromptu. Mark Elsdon has come up with a new version that allows you to perform anywhere, anytime, so long as you have a few business cards in your pocket. We have all been places and had people ask us to do something. Now (unless my wife checks me before we go out), I usually have a deck of cards in my pocket. But not everyone does. However, as a business person, you should never leave the house without business cards. This is a simple routine to do and it is a fooler. It leaves you clean and your spectator with your business card as a souvenir. A win-win situation. Plus, the price is more than reasonable for something you will end up doing on a regular basis. A great effect that can be used equally effectively by magicians and mentalists. Conclusion: Really nice update of an older principle. I will be adding this to my arsenal. Recommended. |
