Why is 'abbreviation' such a long word? Why is 'Dyslexia' so difficult to spell! peter

Oh my dog! 'Dyslexia' isn't hard to spell. But 'Verbophobia' is well downright scary to spell. Oh no now I've done it!

I've always loved "Transpermogenesis"... it's the belief that aliens populated the earth and actually we are their offspring.
A two word phrase I've always enjoyed is "Flying Buttress"... it's an architectural word, but it sounds like it could either have a dirty meaning, a cool martial arts move or a band's name. Greg

I've always liked the word "Frivolous." I don't quite know why.
Sesquipedalophobia (The fear of long words) is pretty funny (not to mention ironic). Hmmm... impecunious can be a fun one. Paronomasia can be interesting but a good fruition-use every now and then can be good for kicks. Quote:
So far, it's the only word I've found in the English language that uses 'w' as a vowel. Yup...I didn't see it in my "Complete Wordfinder" but my good 'ol Collegiate Dictionary shows the definition of Crwth It's a one-word definition (I won't say it here...you'll have to look it up like I did! ) but the collection of characters, "(1793)" that follows the word makes me think that the word isn't too widely used nowadays! Haha...right next to "Crwth" is the word, cruzeiro. Now that's a funny word. It was the basic monetary unit in Brazil from 1942-1985 and from 1991-1993. Well, now you know! |
