From the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Special Edition 2004, page 41:

"In the late 1700s, a London thief picked the pocket of Judge John Silvester while being found not guilty of picking other pockets! He later confessed and returned the judge's watch."

I wonder if the Judge overturned his original decision or if he...ran out of time!

There was some magician, I can't remember who, who pickpocketed the head of the Secret Service at a banquet that the President was attending (I don't remember which President).

You are thinking of Apollo Robins and it was President Carter's detail, if I remember correctly.

Jason Randall took all the watches off the three man Security Service guarding President Reagan. Jason is not well known among magicians, but he is one of the most successful corporate banquet performers in the country.

Apollo Robbins, of course, is the finest pickpocket I have ever seen.

I believe Apollo Robbins has something on his resume about doing his act on Federal agents.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Back in the 1700's, wouldn't it have been a pocket watch?

When were wrist watches invented?
