While the magic world loves a contest, magicians in India are protesting the government's plan to include magic as a performance category at next year's state school arts competition. An overheated statement from the Malayali Magicians Association insisted that encouraging schoolchildren to learn and perform magic will destroy the art, due to the inability of young people to keep a secret. An article about the controversy suggested that a "magic equipment dealers' magic" was behind the government's plan.
