I really love the detail in this tunic (and others like it) from India:
I'm watching a bunch of them. They're generally inexpensive- free shipping from India. They've got a great earthy authenticity, I find. I'm very impressed with these. I'll post a few more pics if I can. Naturally, colour's a significant consideration. I'm trying to find some things I can mix and match. I've got shoes, already, that I think I'll go with. I purchased a shirt I really! like (pre-owned) from a seller in Vegas, a few days ago: and it's on its way, along with the purchased pants I mentioned in the Magical Pants thread (link below). I'm thinking about putting together a couple of outfits but may start with just a couple new pieces and also work with some things I already have. I've got a few things in mind, so more to follow... See a bit about pants here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=107 About my persona/character/me ![]() https://magicalaurieblog.wordpress.com/ Thanks for your interest. ![]() |

"The main job of costume design in a production is to provide physical and emotional support to every actor through the clothing he or she will wear to enhance characterization. The costume must work onstage. This means it must provide comfort, flexibility and durability. At the same time the design must provide strong visual support of the story, concept and context of the play as a whole. It is my role to ensure that the costumes reflect the visual style of the production and help actors portray their characters on their journey through the play’s action.
I take my cues from the characters and their surroundings as written in the play, as well as from the stylistic choices of the production. In the same way that an actor builds upon the framework of traits and actions of his or her character in the story, I read what the character does and says for clues about what they might wear. I also need to think about how best to reflect a character’s evolution through the development of the story. Sometimes the character is best served by creating contrast between how a character behaves and what he or she looks like." http://artsalive.ca/collections/costumes......?lang=en I was looking around last night and there's so much to choose from! I checked out some vintage pieces for reference. I'll put up some pics. I confirmed that the choices I've made so far are very much in keeping and on track. As I've stated elsewhere, I'm a treasure hunter, and while I'd like to be able to pick up some vintage pieces, I really feel like I've accomplished something at times I pick up something on target at a great price! Economical and efficient, the way many productions strive to operate. As a side note, those qualities are two reasons, I believe, one of my great theatre mentors, Stuart Morrison, used to send my sister and I to source props for our high school drama productions. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

So far, I've kept to pants and shirts, since if you're wandering the woods, they tend to be more practical. But dresses could work for this set, too, and would perhaps emphasize a "goddess" vibe. Here are some vintage dresses that have caught my eye as reference and inspirational pieces:

There's a fine line here, in searching, because I want the outfit to work "across time". I want to emphasize my message as relevant throughout the ages and as currently significant, which it is. So, I don't want to get stuck at Woodstock.
![]() I need just enough to make it interesting, distinctive. I want current credibility- an authenticity. I think I'm on track so far. |

The granny dress . . . . That brings me back!
Bare feet, granny dress in a simple print, no jewelry and a small, very simple wild flower or two in your hair. Is that what you would be going for? |

Personally, I don't think I could make any of those work.

Did you mean this one, Opus?
![]() this one? ![]() I'm kind of fond of this one: ![]() ![]() embroidery detail Your description is close to what I'd go for, but I'd let the flowers on the dress do the decorating- I'm not keen on picking flowers anymore. Maybe a potted plant on the table. ![]() |

Actually, I was thinking that the Floral Boho Hippie Bell Sleeve Festival Maxi looked pretty magical.
I think that the lace on the 70s LONG MAXI FOLK FESTIVAL BOHO made it too ornate. I think that the Gunne Sax Jessica Festival Prairie PEACH Lace Apron Satin Ruffle Gown looks too much like a wedding dress (even if it is PEACH). I think that the 60s 70s VELVETEEN Ethnic Boho/Hippie Festival Embroidered is beautiful and has clean lines, but it is much more formal than the print dresses - it depends on the look you are going for. I also like the 60s 70s Peasant Prairie Folk Calico Floral Tiered Maxi Hippie Festival 100% Cotton. Informal, simple construction, colorful. You should think about something that calls attention to your face. Since you do not want flowers, how about something else that is 'natural?' Maybe a found feather or feathers in your hair? Or a cameo on a hair clip? |

Yes, I do like those bell sleeves, and the buttons are a nice detail.
I was thinking about what I could do with my hair, this afternoon. I like your ideas! I do have a collection of found feathers. ![]() |
