Didn't see that part, Danny ...
But times sure have changed, haven't they? In 1980 I toured South America with Peter Frampton. When we arrived at our hotel in Buenos Aires, there was a Greek entertainer there called Demis Roussos. At the time, he was a HUGE singing star in Europe (and was very well known in South Africa too, where I was born). He and his band were supposed to have departed a week earlier, but apparently during one of his shows, he dropped his mike and his voice kept on singing. He had obviously been lip-synching to a tape. The promoters and public were so outraged, that he and his entire band were put under hotel arrest! Tough secret service-types with dark glasses and walkie-talkies kept a close watch on them wherever they went, and tried to eavesdrop on our conversations. With Frampton, we performed 3 shows on 3 consecutive nights at a huge soccer stadium. But Demis and his band and crew were still there when our entourage left for Brazil. I still don’t know how those guys resolved their situation. Fast forward to 2017: Nowadays, you actually get an AWARD for lip-synching! |

Isn't that the truth?
It is often just necessary. I mean all the delays needed just to get the voice to the stadium at the right time to each section, and all the NIGHTMARE that is actual sound it is not surprising that most lip synch the big day. I find it hard to comprehend her dropping like that and singing. It just seems odd. It was more acrobatics and dancing than anything else. (Which is fine.) But remember Ashley Simpson on SNL? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RrLAgi_mBY Please ignore it is from Fox, but that is the only thing I can find with no nasty words as a title. At the end she blames the BAND! Anyhow yes times have changed.

Some folks would actually be surprised to know which famous stars CANNOT sing live! On their recordings they have pitch correction, auto-tune, and all sorts of techniques to make them sound great. But put 'em in front of a live audience with a mic and no prerecorded tape ...Oi Veh!

It is shocking how much auto tune goes on live as well now.

I think he did a couple of small forgettable movies where he sang and played guitar. When they told him they were going to make him "the singing cowboy" he said, "On the road? Where do we put the guy that sings and the guy that's playing guitar?" He proposed Roy Rogers for the part. Actually, it appears I have it backwards. Wayne was first and Autry was promoted after he wouldn't renew his contract both because he realized he couldn't actually sing and because he didn't believe cowboys should be singing on their way to the shootout!

I'll do my best to keep being wrong, just for the sake of the economy.
If you need fear to enforce your beliefs, then your beliefs are worthless.
