Great use of the egg bag, nicely done.
..and completely ruined by the cliche'd lines and not only that... he ruined it right off the bat.
If I was in the audience, in the first 20 seconds I'd think..."this guy is a hack".

Why are we not insisting of ourselves and helping each other to come up with better than these lines.
Why is this 'ok' with us?

How did you feel after the first 20 seconds?
a) you go girl!
b) aw man, seriously?

To address your questions.... I reckon It's ok with 'them' because writing for magic routines is phenomenally difficult. It's way more difficult than learning tricks and so most will be happy to use what's available and be happy with the outcome and results that they produce. Don't forget most magicians, even those that perform, don't rely on their performances to put food on the table and pay the mortgage so the pressure to deliver something top notch rather than merely acceptable is off.

And... It's ok with 'us' because:
who are 'we' to insist anyone does anything?
'we' generally don't seem to want to share the lines 'we' have crafted and which go towards making our presentations different from the rest of the herd
what someone else does, good, bad, or indifferent, has little or no affect on 'us' and what 'we' are doing.

Personally I'm not adverse to hearing 'hack lines' if they are appropriate and delivered by someone who can make them funny. I, like most audiences, am interested in seeing magic routines that are entertaining, engaging and astonishing. And we have to remember those lines are only hack to those that have heard them before.

I'm all for originality. I champion it and prize it. But I don't think there's any point in sacrificing the main objectives for originality. And the cold truth is, being good and 100% original, or even 10% original, is beyond most people's creative, artistic and commercial ability.

Performer: "what did you think?"
Agent:" "It was original and entertaining... the only problem is the original bits aren't entertaining and the entertaining bits aren't original".

So 20 seconds into watching the clip I didn't particularly think, "this guy's hack". What I thought was, there's nothing here to interest me.
