What size pearls do you use? The Dick Barry effect comes with 6 mm pearls. Has anyone tried a larger size?

I use 8mm. pearls. Work just fine.

I too do this routine. Goes over great! I originally purchased it from Dick Barry. It came with a gimmick that makes the sound of a barking dog. Cute.

Tenyo's 2005 line includes an electronic barking TT that will be great to use with the pearl poodle.

Do you know what the effect is called MagicMan? I've just had a look on the Tenyo site and can't see it there.

Sorry, Big Al, but the new Tenyo line has not yet officially been released.
Somewhere on the net, I did see a video demo of the 2005 line and thought the poodle barking was excellent. This should be out very soon. |

Just seen it in the December Genii, it's called Mystery Poodle, looks as though it's something to do with a gimmicked handkerchief.

Thanks Magicman, watched the clip, the barking sounds good.
Hi Gilmore, I'd seen Magicmans comment re the TT but the article / advert in Genii made a big thing about the handkerchief, that's why I though it may be a gimmicked hankie, having watched the video clip it's obviously a TT. I use the effect as routined "puppy love" by Daniel Cross in Feb 2004 MAGIC magazine, I think this will add a nice end rather than the squeeker.

I use this a lot too. I would make one each for a couple. A blue and a pink . I re collect both poodles and place them batween the palms of the couple. After a few lines.... I ask the couple to look and , the poodles are actually kissing. permanently joint !
Peace, Rannie

Here in Louisiana you can get unlimited beaded pearls/ beaded necklaces for free.... Just stop by for Mardi Gras and get you a life time supply of pearl poodle material at a parade.

From what I understand about Mardi Gras I don't have what's needed to flash to the crowd to receive these free beaded necklaces!.... |

Don't be too sure about that. You could be surprised!

Can't wait for this product as I already perform an effect using the pearl poodle and I think that this would enhance it. When I perform the effect in restaurants, I place the poodle in a tiny paper bag as a souvenir and tell the spectator that compliments of the restaurant I'd like to give them a little doggy bag.

A friend of my nephew's works for a company that shoots novelty product ads. The company that they do the work for makes a line of plastic bead necklaces. These are found in party stores. she sent me a box full of different colored necklaces. I use these for the poodle. I have enough beads for hundreds of performances. Check out the party stores in your area.

Lucy and I don't do the bead thing but we do use a costume store in New Orleans that should have what you want.

Hi All,
Just wanted to add that I do the Daniel Cross version of the beaded poodle. This routine ALWAYS mesmerizes the spectators involved. My main clientelle is the corporate market. Performing at Coctail Parties, and Banquets when doing Close-up. The fact that you and a spectator construct the small string of beads in a flash of fire is great interaction and the flash always gets a good reaction, and creates attention from other groups. It is a simple routine but it really goes over well!!! I also do some work for the Lake Louise Ski Resort where I take actual snow and turn it into the string of beads (snowballs). Then twist them into a Lake Louise Snow Dog Souvenir for the skiers in the lodge. This is a great bit of PR for the resort. I actually did this routine for a family in the lodge one aftenoon. After I handed the dog to the little girl. Her mother introduced herself as a representative from the ski resort's head office. She told me that I earned my fee for the whole week in that one little moment!! Just goes to show that a simple trick is sometimes the best trick!!!!! Cheers, Michael Berends

The local Cost Plus store here in Houston (I think it is a chain in the U.S.) has/had little doggies that barked when you squeeze them. They are about $2.50 and were recently on sale for half price. Just do a little operation on the doggie to remove the barking device. It is wee bit larger than would comfortably fit in a TT, but it can be easily palmed. The only problem is that it is hard to hear the barking in a crowded restaurant or bar area. It is best when the conversation and the background noise is low in intimate settings, like a private dinner party.
