Hi ALL
Been a while since ive released anything, took sometime out to work on new material. Later today I will be releasing UNKNOWN.... This is something I have been toying with for a while, it allows the performer to predict the exact amount of cards a spectator will cut as well as the card they have cut to. Key things here: Borrowed deck No Crimps No Stacks No Gimmicks And the best bit is its self working. I will be sending out a couple of review copies of this ebook, if youwould like to be one of the 5 hit me up with an email. Russell2236@hotmail.com All the best R |

I received a review copy from Rus last night. The PDF is 11 pages, well written and everything is explained very clearly to achieve the effect. I have a good amount of Mr. Andrews other effects that are PDF's and have found the previously mentioned description to be very consistent in Mr. Andrews writing. The effect itself is very simple to do. There is a very tiny setup that you can do right in front of the spectators if you have to. So you can use a borrowed shuffle deck to do the effect. If you have any experience at all performing then I would say the tiny setup can be easily done on the fly in front of your audience. Even if you are new to magic, the setup is so minimal that I still think you could get away with setting it up on the fly. In Rus's above "KEY THINGS" description:
Borrowed deck No Crimps No Stacks No Gimmicks is totally accurate. Now, before you begin the effect, you mention that you made a prediction. Though you do not pull out the prediction before the effect begins but after the spectator cuts the cards. That may leave some performers here a little empty. But I feel because of how the whole routine is structured and progresses I do not think that is a big deal or a major weak point. I do think the outcome of your prediction accurately predicting how many cards are cut and accurately predicting the card that was cut to is very strong and will overshadow pulling out the prediction after the cut. After all, in the spectators mind the possibilities of the number of cards that can be cut will instantly add that impossibility factor of getting the prediction 100% correct and will overshadow pulling out the prediction after the cut. You will need a wallet to perform the original effect described. If you do not carry a wallet, Rus explains (3)three other ways to accomplish the effect without a wallet. One way is more of a little cute comedy prediction, the second ways allows you to only predict the card, and the third way will allow you to predict both the number of cards that were cut along with predicting the card that was cut to per the original effect. I actually think the third way will be a very strong way to perform UNKNOWN and Rus does mention that lately that's how he has been performing UNKNOWN. In conclusion, I really like this. A lot. I think sometimes I may even use this as an opener for my card set to "warm everybody up and see if we all will be on the same page for the rest of the evening" type of statement. My opinions are not biased due to me receiving a review copy. I truly like this and think it will be a great and easy to perform effect that will immediately develop a good relationship between you and your spectator(s). Very nice work Rus! RNK

I got a review copy of this, but that wouldnt sway my opinion of the effect as I genuinely like this.
RNK's review was very thorough, so I'll just add a few of my thoughts. Rus has taken some ideas from a few of his previous releases and combined them here to make a great effect even better. Its simple, easy and deceptive- a common trademark of his work. RNK mentions that you need a wallet to perform this and you do not pull out the prediction before the effect begins- I'll clarify that your wallet is in full view on the table to begin with, and you point to it saying you made a prediction inside- so it does seem very fair... and you end clean. There are a few variations taught without the need for a wallet, and with some creative thinking, you can come up with some alternatives- I'll be presenting this with the prediction in an envelope on the table in full view to start. Overall this is a great effect that I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with and is a solid value for the price. |

I contacted Russ pretty much as soon as I saw his post as the effect sounded great, and he kindly sent over a review copy.
Others have already explained the effect but basically this will allow you to have someone cut a deck of cards and have the amount cut to have been predicted, then as a kicker the prediction is turned over to reveal a playing card... the one they cut to. A few versions are taught with the first being where you have your wallet out on the table which ends up containing a prediction of how many cards they cut off and the card they cut too on the back, the second is the same as the first but with a different prediction, the third is where they cut the deck and you have predicted which card they cut too, and the fourth is the same overall effect as the first but with no wallet and no set-up prediction wise. I'll now quickly cover my thoughts on each version. 1st version which uses a wallet: Set-up- There is 2 things to set-up with this version, one being the wallet which once set you can go ahead and perform over and over, the other being something quick and easy with the cards that most could easily get away with in front of the spectators and takes ljust a few moments. You will need to do this bit every time you perform, but if you use your deck you can reset in literally 2 secs. Difficulty- Very easy to perform, no real moves at all... they cut, you count (and to be honest they could do this bit also, but could be a tad risky), amount and card cut to predicted. The quick bit of work with there deck should be easy for basically everyone. Reset- For your own deck it will take a couple of seconds, for borrowed you just put prediction back in wallet. Pros: The effect flows well Easy Can be done with any deck Cool effect Cons: Need a wallet or at least a way of having and getting the prediction, doesn't sound like a con but it's more the need for having m******* somethings which may not suit everyone. I want to say something... it's not really a con as such though, but there is a restriction but I can't say (it's not really a problem but I want to be as honest as possible with this). My thoughts- I really like the effect and the way the routine is put together, all of the motions are justified. Will I do it as is... no, not because it's not good, I just don't carry a wallet and am not carrying around extras just for this effect. Second Version: Basically take everything I said about the first version and apply it to this other than this needs to use your own deck and the prediction is kind of a gag but at the same time a proper prediction. It is cool. Third version where they cut the deck and you have predicted the card they cut to: Set-up- You either write a prediction there and then or have one on you, and you need to do the same thing with the deck as in the first version but with this one the quickness will be the same as if you were simply resetting your own deck. Difficulty- Easy peasy. Reset- If using your own deck then same as with the first version, if using someone elses then nothing as you'd simply write a prediction and set the deck in front of whoever you perform for next. Pros: No need for wallet, just something to write the prediction on They can basically cut any amount of cards. Easy Cons: I don't feel the flow is as good with just the cutting to a card, it feels like the number and cut to card being predicted flows better with the handling. My thoughts- For me not as good as the others as the handling was really made for the number and card, but works. Last version without a wallet and card and number are predicted. Set-up- Same as before with the deck, but the prediction is made during the effect so just something to write with and on. Difficulty- Super easy. Reset- Same as before with the deck if it's yours, if not then nothing as you'll just do what's needed as you perform. Pros: No wallets or anything, just something to write with and on. No restrictions. Easy. Both the card and number are predicted. Cons: Some may not like the method used as part of the effect... the prediction is made whilst moving along with the effect. My thoughts- This is ok but I don't like the moments you make your predictions, the method works but I wouldn't use it for this... the first and second versions are cleaner and better looking. Doesn't flow as well. The manuscript- The manuscript is short and to the point, virtually everything is explained well and pictures are included... I say virtually everything is explained well because he doesn't actually cover how you make the deck clean. You are left a tad dirty and unless you're using your own deck there is no explanation of how to clean-up. Now this is a very simple and easy clean-up and it can be done during the effect, but it's just not covered at all. Aswell as the effects he does teach how to do this with a participant able to freely shuffle the deck beforehand, which is nice to have included. Overall- This is a great little effect and priced reasonably, if I'm completely honest I won't be doing this effects as though I can appreciate the workings etc, the best version doesn't meet my needs as far as being completely impromptu... I'm not carrying around extras no matter how small purely for this effect. There will be many that will buy this and love it's simplicity and ease of execution, and I can see this playing really well... just not for me (I'm picky when it comes to card stuff, and where it's not a big focus of mine I like the effects to be impromptu). Would I have been happy parting with a tenner for this... no because I won't be using it. Would be silly to say yes when I'm going to be deleting it and moving on... but read the other reviews aswell as mine and if it sounds like something you'd use after knowing more about it then I can't see you being disappointed. It feels like I'm being mean lol, but if I'm not going to use any part of it then that's that. |

The effect has been described by other people on here & it is an excellent effect.
Being able to predict how many cards someone will cut off a pack is quite amazing from a lay persons point of view. But to also predict ahead of time what card they will cut to is an extra kicker which is the icing on the cake. The good thing is it's so easy to do & can be done on the fly in real world conditions. I like this for it's double punch & it's user friendly anytime anywhere application. Rus has never let me down with his ideas & this is one that I will be trying out over this weekend. Thank you Rus. Like this alot. Mike Donoghue |

1KJ Inner circle Warning: We will run out of new tricks in 4385 Posts |
Hi. I wish I had read this thread before purchasing. I don't really care for having six outs in my wallet. If I put something magical in my wallet, it has to have the most impact for the least amount of space. Six outs in a wallet... for me... is out.
Also, this shouldn't have been a single release for that reason. I suspect very few performers would want to take up that much wallet space for one trick and now they have shelled out some money for nothing. If you had released this with a few other effects that don't have such a restriction, then perhaps anyone could find something useful. Sorry, but very disappointed. KJ |

Also, there is a much better way to set up the deck, with a double back card, not the way instructed here. This way runs the risk of the participant seeing something they shouldn't.

Firstly I'm sorry you feel that way, my apologies for disappointing you with this effect. Couple of things id like to just point out after reading your very descriptive post about my effect, yes this can be done using a double backer, but I'm pretty sure if you use a deck from the back of a local bar or at a friends house you wont have a double backer to match that deck? if you do that's a magic effect on its own and fair play to you on that one sir, the idea is that any deck can be used for this. also thanks for exposing part of the method, bad form there, but its your post. There have been some great releases over the years that use multiple outs in wallets KK by Knepper, Spoken, On the mark, heirloom the list goes on, to say that you wouldn't use an effect because it many outs is a real shame. Finally not everything is for everyone, and I know this myself. Ive had some great feedback on this which I'm really happy with. Instead of exposing the method on here you could have just contacted me direct and I would have sorted something or sent you some new material I am currently working on. Again sorry for your disappointment, cant please everyone R |

Rus,
First, Identifying what you need is not exposure. How would you feel if you purchased an effect only to find out you have to carry a 500 pound gorilla on your back to perform it? I didn't expose the method, I simply exposed a MAJOR limitation to this effect. Readers still do not know how this is done, but at least they know that they will need to carry a wallet full of stuff for this one trick. You can't possibly disagree that that is a very important consideration for most every magician! For you to suggest that we should keep that a secret.. that is bad form. Second, It is SO RARE that magicians ever perform with a borrowed deck. Let's see... almost NEVER. I realize that is a common "sales" tactic, but few magicians ever perform with borrowed decks. And furthermore, when someone says the effect can be performed with a borrowed deck, the last thing I'm going to assume is that I have to have a wallet full of "gimmicks". Typically when someone says it can be performed with a borrowed deck, the reasonable assumption is that this is totally impromptu and doesn't require anything but the borrowed deck. Otherwise, heck every effect can be done with a borrowed deck.. "borrow a deck, add a 20 pound turkey and some dressing and then...", "borrow a deck, switch it for a sliced pickle and ...", "borrow a deck, secretly take a jackhammer from your wallet and..." Do you see my point? kj |

It was already stated in this thread that you need a wallet. I don't think it was necessary to expose the exact number of outs as that was enough of a hint in my opinion. It's also worth noting there are multiple versions taught- some that do not require a wallet, so there's something for everyone.

First, I was disappointed with myself because the ad is very misleading, and there was no video to give you a better idea of what you are getting into, and if I had read this thread, even the free copy reviews were "iffy".
Second, the fact that a wallet is involved doesn't let you know that you are going to have to stuff it with six items. Not cool. Third, the effect that doesn't require the outs or the wallet is nothing original or new, and it's not even a very good method, IMO. Look, I'm not blaming Rus. I really blame myself. We all know that magic sellers mislead buyers all the time. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I think sellers should disclose when it uses multiple outs. kj |
