I was hoping to have an ‘easy’ way to force a word – with cards
This was my idea, maybe there’s a better way [I don’t want to use a svenpad type device] I was hoping phoenix do ‘blank’ faced cards – in their double decker packs That way I can show loads of words from the top of the deck… [I will be using events, like ‘1990 World Cup in Italy’, I would maybe read the first ten or so, and then spin through the next 20 or so… I then show that the back of the deck all the cards have numbers, and ask the spec to name any number and we will use that card. Whatever the number they name – with the DD that’s my forced event The next part isn’t important – but I would then do it again with another deck. And then the final part would be 4 genuinely free choices. Which although they only had 4 choices really, it will seem like they had 10k+ possible outcomes. Now the problem – it doesn’t look like phoenix do DD packs as blanks. If they don’t Any ideas on how to arrange a deck, so someone with no real card skills, can easily force a result. It’s easy for me to carry around two decks [one for each force word] – as the effect lends itself to being able to carry the decks. I did think of something like the Smart Ass Deck – but it’s a bit fiddley… I like how ‘clean’ the Double Decker is, and how it easily means I can name many events to show how many and varied they are, before turning the deck over and the spec picks any number. Thanks for any help, abuse, or advice |

Assuming this is a parlor or trade show type performance, the easiest thing is to forget the DD and just use 4 regular decks. Write the events on the BACKS of the cards (you can use blank backed cards if you really prefer a clean writing surface). Have someone name a card then fan through the cards face-up until you come to their named selection, pull it from the spread and turn it over to show their event. Of course, all of the cards have the same event written on them. To make this deceptive the first 4 or 5 cards in the deck have different events written on them (Going through more than that becomes tedious to the audience... they get it after the first couple). When you pull the deck out, show the top card and turn it over as you say, "If you were to choose the 8 of spades, that would be <random event>.... or if you picked the King of Clubs, that would be the <random event 2>. Matching actions to words you show the first few cards front and back (CASUALLY!) as you explain the premise. Then to speed things along, you continue fanning through the deck where only you can see the backs and casually mis-call a few other events that are presumably written on the cards throughout the deck.
When they make a selection, pull out one of your force cards and voila. You can repeat the same procedure with the other decks, but I would shorten it up after the first explanation. Don't run when you're not.... well, you know how it goes. If you don't like the playing card idea, then just buy a few fully blank decks, front and back. Then you can add numbers and events yourself. If you only need a handful of "convincer events" just put them on top. Nobody is going to know how many cards you are supposed to have there so having a deck thicker than an official playing card deck won't make a difference. The DD decks for this would be overkill, in my opinion. Best of luck and hope you find a solution that works for you.

Thanks for that
I contacted card shark - and the do blank faced double deckers - but as they don't make them in such bulk, you don't get a discount for buying more than one packet [so £25 a pack] So that would be rather costly Though Parlor [bigger] decks are the same price... so I thought maybe get a bigger deck for the price... But then I saw your response Thanks I think that is very workable So I have the cards in a plastic card box [out of the packet] - I guess you can fit 60 or so cards like that... So there are 10+ examples... I can miscall others... and they can pick any number from 1 - 52 and get a force card Perfect It looks like bike blank decks are around £5.50 each? I think I might get some blue and some red backs - rather than double blanks I don't suppose anyone knows somewhere that sells bricks of blanks [?] Once again Mr Keyl thanks for the suggestion |

Yes, you understand perfectly what I'm trying to convey. Glad it will work for you and best of luck!

What about these, would they work? I use them, and think they are great!

Yes I am going down that path here is the new thread http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=203 the difference is, I bought blank faced cards, I'm going to rough them myself, so each forced card has a different number on the back - each non forced card has the same number on.... my question in that thread is... what's the best number of cards... 26 numbers - but looks like a full deck... I was wondering if 78 cards [39 choices] will make the deck look far too big |
