EFFECT: A coin is borrowed from a spectator which he marks for later identification. The magician takes the coin and causes it to vanish. Now, he walks over to a box which has been in full view all the time. The box is opened and an inner box removed. This box is given to the spectator to unlock and open. Inside he finds that the box is full of beans. The end of a ribbon is sticking up out of the beans. The spectator is asked to take hold of the ribbon and carefully pull it out. Attached to the other end of the ribbon is a smaller box wrapped with rubber bands. He removes the rubber bands and finds his marked coin inside.

Note: This trick was originally manufactured by Stillwell. Arturo later built some when he worked for Abbotts, and also when he worked for Grant. As far as I know they were all painted. I am building a limited number, mostly in natural wood. Each box will be from a different and contrasting wood. - Mel Babcock, Aug. 2002

Suggested venue: Stage/Platform

This is one of my favorite House of Babcock pieces. An absolutely gorgeous rendition of an old classic that is ridiculously low priced in my professional opinion. Especially with consideration given to the hand selected exotic materials and unrivaled precision, quality and craftsmanship. From personal discussions with Mel, his exquisite pieces are a labor of love that he prices affordably to put them in the hands of performing magicians. I always opt to close my platform shows with an impossible location effect and this one is extremely baffling. A real pleasure to own and perform with and comes very highly recommended.

I ordered Mel's Triple Coin Box effect today. He emailed me the instructions and, I must say, I am quite impressed with the cleverness of this effect. This will become a major highlight of my performances. I will probably use a rattle box or coin hank to vanish the coin.

Mel plans to ship my effects tomorrow (I also ordered a 3" Die Box from Mel). I'll be like a kid on Christmas sometime next week!

Mel makes some of the very best props in magic! Durable, attractive, work as they should, and he is as accommodating as it gets! Natural woods of all kinds with or without inlays of all kinds, painted with or without trim and/or decorations, and a variety of sizes to suit your needs. By the way, Mel does all of the work himself. No helpers, just him so the quality control is impeccable! His patience in making everything just right is remarkable.

In the history of magic, no one has been more accommodating to provide you with the prop you want the way you want it.

Whether you want a Die Box or a large variety of other classic magic apparatus, Mel is your guy.

In addition, Mel is quite knowledgeable about magic and has a fantastic sense of humor. Oh...did I mention that he is a great guy? Well, he is!

Mark...you are correct. Next week, you are in store for a fantastic unveiling of your new magic props. A perfect Die Box and Triple Coin Boxes set which is just fantastic, both in quality and operation. Two extremely worthwhile purchases. Enjoy...

I owned an inexpensive mini Die Box when I was a kid. I currently own the Mikame Sucker Block Box, which I think is a nice spin on the effect. But I've never owned a quality traditional Die Box. Mel explained how his double door system works and it's pretty impressive. No fumbling required. Now I just have to work out an effective presentation.

But it's the Triple Coin Box that I'm most looking forward to receiving. I think Mel's method (well, I guess it was a Stillwell and then Arturo design) is supremely clever. I haven't handled the props yet, but based on the description in the instructions he sent, every movement by the magician is 100% natural with now opportunity to arouse suspicion. There are other next of boxes types of effects that, in my mind, arouse significant suspicion during the un-nesting process.

I recently purchased an Owen Magic Supreme Rattle Box. I already owned an off-brand Rattle Box and it was fine, but purchased an Owen model when I was able to get one for almost half the normal retail price. I am very impressed with the size of the Owen Rattle Box, it's nice and compact compared to the first one I acquired and everything about the Owen product is superior. That's what I'll be using to vanish the coin for the Triple Coin Boxes effect.

My two Magic House of Babcock items are schedule for delivery on Monday. I'm very excited!

They may vary a bit from set to set but mine is approximately 6 inches square.

I checked with Mel and he is out with no plans at this time to make more so I upped my game and bought the last of his nest of 5 boxes. It is a different method but I will keep looking on the secondary market.
