Friday afternoon my wife tells me we're going out for dinner with 3 other couples on Saurday night.
They asked for me to do a magic trick after dinner. I am an addicted hobbyist that has been into magic for about 50 years. I did a few tricks for them before and wanted to try something different. I went to Petsmart and picked up 5 $.14 goldfish that are used as feeder fish. I practiced Friday night and was still left with 5 fish. I had to figure out transportation and setup logistics. After the dinner on Saturday, I performed a goldfish production from a signed and rolled up dollar bill. The response was awesome. The restaurant staff came to our table to look at the live goldfish in a wine glass. I saved the bag the fish came in and gave the fish to a waitress that promised to take care of him. We named him Nemo. Normally it would have taken me much longer to prepare for something like this. I found that the more experience you have, the easier it is to learn new effects and put it together. I already had a feel for misdirection, angles, patter, etc. I watched many goldfish presentations on YouTube, practiced, and then I went for it. Success! Just sharing.

Sounds great, and you had fun as well as allowing others to share in your fun. One suggestion for the future, carry a deck of cards (or something) in a zip-loc bag and do that trick first, leaving the zip-loc bag on the table. When you produce the fish, use the clean and dry zip-loc bag as an "after thought" so you can pour in the fish and water and give the fish to someone. Act as if you hadn't planned to give away your card plastic bag, but did so only after realizing that you had to have something to put the fish in so you could give it away. That makes the fish production seem even more impromptu, rather than coming prepared with a zip-loc bag because you knew you were going to do "the goldfish production." Alternate plan, ask your wife if she has something in her purse you can use to put the fish in. She digs around and comes up with a zip-loc bag containing a tin of mints (or something locical) and asks you if that will work.

Good thought.
After last nights' experience, I'll be doing it again. I like your idea. I still have 3 fish left. I don't know what to do with them.

You might also want to check out Spellbinder's "Appearing Live Goldfish from a Bottle of Spring Water" from his Dollar Store section on "Party Cup Magic." You take someone's bottle of water (from which they have been drinking) and cause the goldfish to appear inside the bottle.

Bev Bergeron has a great quickie for a live goldfish production in Bev Bergeron - On Tape. I think it is also in his lecture notes Bev Bergeron in print.

God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.
