HMV as in heavy metal HVM?

"HMV" is the name of a group of music stores in the UK

When I use music, I go for something like "Mission Impossible" or "The Entertainer" ... a couple of times I've also used some Jazz for the longer escapes.

Oye, thanks Riley all I remember is the big Virgin store when I was over there last, in Piqadilly.
X I believe HVM is longer-short(!?) for HM also. I use a lot of techno/rave/acid house which is something else I remember from being in the UK. Nothing personal James but a lot of EA's use Joplin and "MI" themes which is why I tend to stray from those genres. I also have a love for the Medieval sounding "world beat" music which went into overkill thanks to Braveheart I have a lot of royality free stuff and a CD that was done for my show a lot of it I have not used as it does not fit the flow of any of my routines. First I come up with an escape, then the patter then I go through ALL the music I do not use and see if anything clicks. I recently bought PETER LOUGHRAN'S Iron Garotte and was going through the music when one immedatly struck me as perfect, it was really creepy because there were EXACT pauses and beat switchs right where I needed them, it was like the piece was written for the effect. Bottom line collect and never throw anything out. X

You can always go for the corny approach and escape to Queen's "I Want To Break Free" or Englebert Humperdink's "Please Release Me". If you want a more jazzy approach, how about "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free"?

I use a lot of ICP, Twiztid, HIM, rap, and rock/goth stuff. Its good when the music scares the crowd as much as the show does
I find all my music in my own record collection. I really think you should like listening to the music you are performing too, rather than using something that ou don't like personally, but think would be right for the audience/show. My personal experience of this is doing stiltwalking in techno/dance type clubs. I always felt that my hatred of the music negatively affected my performence, and that nightclub gigs were not for me. Then I started getting work in rock clubs, and suddenly I was actually good at my job ![]()

There is a terrific cut on the soundtrack album for The Crow by My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. If it's true that people's heartbeats will match the music, this will get them sweating.

Okay, heres one for you: talk to musicians. Go to your local guitar shop, or the music department at a local college and ask the students or professors your questions about the names of artists that might do the kinds of things you want. You will be surprised how freely and plentiful they will start giving you ideas.
Now not all of what they think will be at all what you were hoping for. But give it a shot. You might also ask a music teacher for a brilliant student who could crank out a copyright free "knock-off" of some famous or commercial piece you would like to have for your very own. The students may even get class credit for doing the project for you. give it a shot! -Ed

I use a lot of movie soundtracks in my escapes. I use "Going the Distance" from "Rocky", selections from "Conan the Barbarian", "Staying Alive" "Halloween"
"Superman". I also use Rock and Roll like "Carry on my Wayward son" by "Kansas, and I'm currently writing a comedy escape using "Greased Lightning" from "Grease" Depending on the venue I sometimes even use a classic "Sousa March". As long as we're on the topic maybe someone out there can help me with a problem I've had for some years. I know there are some very knowledgable people out there and I hope someone knows the answer to this: In the movie Houdini, starring Tony Curtis, there was a scene in the movie where Houdini first escaped from a strait jacket in a competition with a bunch of other magicians for a first prize of a round trip cruise to Europe. (Remember that scene?) Well, I've always wanted to use the music they played during the escape. I know it's been used many times as I've heard it in Bugs Bunny cartoons, I Love Lucy episodes, and recently on a home improvement show. If anyone knows the name of this piece would you please PM it to me or post it on the forum. I appreciate any help in this matter. Best regards, Tony Parisi |
