Come on Tom, don't say your BS detector isn't off the charts with this. You must know the millions of empty threats that keyboard warriors post on the internet everyday.

I know that.
I also know that extremely few "keyboard warriors" make the effort of tracking down address & phone number of others, in order to send them personal threats via phone and text.
To me, a clear line is passed when that happens.

Oh boy, that's sad. Smile

Madison's apology video is a clear example of something that makes me embarrassed on account of others.

What on earth did he smoke when he painted such a pomopus, theatrical, exaggerated, pitiful and pathetic picture of a man losing ground and touch?

I'm not sure I am reading this right.... but it seems like some people in this thread are defending and condoning actual death threats as a suitable response to an artist's spoof character.

The conspiracy theorists here who claim to know for certain that this is just another marketing ploy. Just give it up.
Your unfounded opinions and guesswork just muddles the issue. You have no idea what the facts are, and you have no cause or reason to provide justifications for the offender.

It is like people have forgotten how to be human beings.

I'm not condoning actual death threats. I'm just saying that I don't think there are any actual death threats. I don't see how questioning something that somebody writes online is muddying an issue, it's questioning it.

If I'm wrong, and he really has got death threats, then that's clearly an awful thing to happen. But if I'm right, and he hasn't, then they're instead using death threats as a way of gaining PR. So should that claim not be held up to some scrutiny? Or we should we just believe what Elusionist say on the internet? That's not inhumane. It's thinking.

It's like people have forgotten how to think.

Please don't be offensive. There's no need for it. Mine was just an opinion or intuition which doesn't need to be proven. Be respectful, please. Thank you.

You do recognize that it is performance art?
It might not be art you like or consider to be "good" art, but that doesn't change the nature of the work, and as such it is pretty well crafted (albeit perhaps a bit heavyhanded). I thought it was quite brilliant.

Remember, all this is about playing cards - small colored bits of cardboard.
The situation is; his fictional character "Daniel Madison" have just claimed to be better than the fictional character "Erdnase".
There have never existed anyone named Erdnase, so the whole thing is on the level "in a duel between Spiderman and Superman, who would win?", yet, people are up in arms over it, this fictional nonsense duel.
And it is now the "Apology" comes... and it turns out to be a rendition of the MMA fighter Conor McGregor's famous apology speech ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZKDNoq9HWM ). Really!? He's emulating an Irish professional mixed martial artist... in the context of bragging over being better than a long gone fictional character... in using colored bits of cardboard? Think! Consider the vast contrast between expression and substance. He says literally says it out loud; "Think!"
Finally, he boast his name "Daniel Madison" as if the name itself had any inherent worth, and then demand "Who are you?" - and then immediately cut to the text; "there are over 200 billion known galaxies in the observable universe.", a contrast to make us consider how insignificant he is, you are, we all are in the grand scale of it all. Is all this huffing and puffing over pieces of cardboard really worth waisting our tiny shortlived spark of life in this immense univese? Yes, indeed. Who am I?

Well I dunno Tom. That actually is rather prevalent on the internet these days. It's called "doxxing" and the methods of doing this, like our craft are easily accessible.

EDIT: doxxing usually has to do with sharing someones private info... publicly... but what I am saying is that finding private info is kinda a "thing" on the net these days

I consider myself well able to appreciate art even that I personally don't like as art nonetheless.
However, I may not share the same benevolent view about what's art at all.

When I thought Ellusionist was using the Cartman Land you can't come/The Interview Movie Technique to generate even more hype it was fine. But this is just ridiculous:

"After opening the Erdnase decks for the first time, Madison decided to delete his entire project and re-film from scratch."

But the people who received the Erdnase Decks have a Collectible.

Mr. Kaufman:
Sadly, you are correct. This product is being marketed to those under the age of 30. If you are over 30, you tend to be somewhat turned off. If you are over 50, like myself, the odds of buying this product is about 5%.

My fascination with this product is the marketing.

PS: Are you THE Richard Kaufman of "On the Pass" among other spectacular books and DVDs?

Yup--still doing the Pass and writing books! But nothing about Erdnase, thank you very much.

I think Erdnase has been done to death.

Do have anything coming up?

Well for what it's worth, I own the project and have had the chance to sit through it - so I took a moment to record my thoughts after listening to not just this conversation, but many others.

An excellent review. A nice un-biased review of the product from a great reviewer.
Keeping clear of the controversy was good idea. You have to separate the wheat from
the chaff and point out the strong and weak points.

The manufactured outrage advertising, which I believe was primed by eLLusion themselves, has been successful.
Madison has expanded his character, for better or worse, at the expense of the traditional delivery.

I do like the part in your review where you show how they blacked out everything except Madison's hands.

Did it push me over into the buy column? The answer is no. Personally I do not like download only products.
Had the package included 6 or 8 dvds, like the Erdnase x Ackerman, there is a good chance I would buy it.

It would have helped a little more if you took one of Madison's lessons and highlighted it in detail.

Thanks Again!

I don't really like them becasue, to see them on my big screen tvs, I have to create a dvd, label it, etc.

Maybe buy a Chromecast? Makes it super simple to stream from your computer to your tv.
