Hi. This is somewhat of an idea that I have been pondering but have not come up with a solution to. Anywho, here it is: Making a drumset appear.
Anyone have any ideas for this? I have thought of making a large square-circle type box but something about that seems a little much. |

Black art with the proper lighting would probably work. For ideas, check out Dondrake's book "Black Art Breakthroughs". He might also be able to advise you how to do this if you contact him through his website:

For a complete drum set to appear on stage with or without a drummer. You will have to check out the larger Illusion plans along the lines of making a portal appearance.
This will cost you $10,000 or more and can only be performed in a theater. There are many illusion builders that can work on this for you for a consultation fee. The square circle idea can be made by Abbott's Magic, they made a very large on for a trade show production of radios. It cost $400 20 years ago, so think along the lines of $1000 or more. Then you will have to consider the height of the circle to hold all the drums. If you are serious I think the large sq-cir is available for sale. It can easily hold the base drum. Let me know if you are interested and I will contact the person. |

Drummer-inc,
I'm actually a drummer of nearly 8 years myself. I'm also an illusion designer so I've also explored a drumset appearance illusion. I have a few methods on file and most don't cost much at all. However it of course depends on the desired 'look' of the appearance. A square circle style appearance will obviously be much more expensive to build than say a platform & cloth appearance. It also depends on wether the drumkit needs to be played or not. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Good luck with your illusion, Mike

Mike,
I'd go for the black arts! It's probably the cheapest, but will depend on the venue / lighting etc! James. |

James,
The best method that I've come up with involves b/a and your right it is the cheapest option. You don't need to spend 1000's to build an illusion like this. I hope Drummer-inc takes our advice and explores this a little further. Thanks, Mike

Yea I haven't messed with b/a too much unless you count a normal square circle or loops.

Paul Osborne may be a good source to research. I cannot be sure though, seeing how I don't even own a drumset.

If your venue has side wings, the Crossover panels is the cheapest way of producing them. Check David's video wher he does the Blueprint Illusion and then you can P.M me.
I did this for a product launch { a washing machine} and it worked. |
