For those registering for FISM 2018- you may wish to avoid the website for the interim - lest you want to have your personal information compromised.

I first alerted the organisers & FISM executive a YEAR AGO to the extremely convoluted, nonsensical 17 step online registration process and the multiple problems therein. It was clear they had minimal IT understanding of the most basic elements of convention registration - especially when dealing with a diverse international audience. This was ignored for over a year.

Things have now got worse – and new problems have developed - FISM 2018 are now placing the personal information & confidential credit card payment details at risk of the nearly 3000 attendees.

This is simply unacceptable.

*The FISM 2018 website itself is not secure ... usernames, passwords, date of births, names, emails & mailing address are all being collected over an unsecure connection. All of this information is open to being intercepted

*The FISM 2018 hotel booking site requires you to install a random EXE file should you wish to pay via credit card. Yes - they want you to install a random EXE file from a website in Korea exposing your computer to any manner of malware or virus. This borders on insanity. As is the notification that the site must only be used with Internet Explorer ( sorry Chrome, Firefox, Safari - we'll just ignore the rest of the internet shall we ? ) Don't want to do that ? Please wire transfer funds instead. What century are we in ?

*Worse still - the FISM 2018 hotel site is collecting full credit card information ( number, expiry date ) over an unencrypted, non-SSL connection. This is a serious breach of MasterCard & Visa regulations - and exposes FISM to serious culpability. The statement "your credit card information is secured" is a blatant lie.

This all makes a mockery of what is supposed to be a professional gathering - and turns the event into amateur hour before it even begins.

There is clearly no oversight from FISM management and the local organisers simply do what they want.

We cannot have a situation where these problems are simply ignored for another year. FISM deserves better and FISM management need to start taking ownership of the oversight of the event - BEFORE THE PROBLEMS OCCUR - otherwise what is their purpose at all ?

It is just too easy to simply blame "the local organisers" post fact as happened in Blackpool & Italy when things go amiss.
