Hello all!

After lurking around for a few weeks I figured it's time for me to introduce myself.
Who am I? I'm a 29 year old fresh novice from Belgium with literally no experience in magic.

Why did I join then? Out of pure lazyness one might say, and in the eyes of many of you probably for the wrong reason.
I play a decent amount of pokergames on a weekly basis with a lot of friends, and I grew tired of having to deal often.
So my search began looking for an escape, and I came quickly to a perfect solution. Wich is before dealing showing them some effects ("easy" to learn tricks and controls), to point out they wouldn't want me to deal. (Not for cheating purposes ofcourse Smile )
So the quest for knowledge started, and I headed straight to google and youtube for tips and advice (beginner mistake, I know). After looking at some tutorials wich weren't really helpfull, I became eager to learn and this is the moment I entered The Magic Café.
And at this moment I knew that I could (and more importantly want to) do so much more then just getting out of dealing at cardgames.
So I ordered myself the Royal Road, and started to practise the very basics. I'm still practising the very same basics and will stick to that untill I can say I "mastered" them before taking the next step.
I know I have a (very) long and hard road ahead to be there where I want to be, but I'm confident it's going to be a very entertaining road.

I would like to thank you guys for showing me that I was ignorant, and that I joined for the completely wrong reason.
Thanks for the guidance I've found throughout all the posts on this forum, and for the guidance that I'm still going to find here.

Hopefully I can one day say to you guys that I'm there where I want to be (wich might be impossible, because the road to perfection is neverending).
Untill then I'm just going to study, practise, absorb knowledge, practise some more...

Thanks and greetings to all!

Welcome Upham,

I'll bet you don't find dealing such a chore now. Once you get to know them, a good deck of cards is a pure pleasure to handle.

Good for you for not just rushing ahead and taking time to master a move before moving on. Be careful not to wait too long though. Real mastery can only be achieved in performance so you have to get to performing to finish the job.

We all come to Magic from a different path. Yours is an unusual one though. LOL

Best of luck Nick.

Welcome onboard Upham.

I must admit that I also like a good game of poker once in a while. When we play, I always take the opportunity to input some amazements and doubts in my playing partners minds...Harry Lorraine's best ever collection DVD have some awesome effect that you can use for this. I usually perform the following:

- Lorayne's Poker Deal #1
- Lorayne's Poker Deal #2
- 10-Card Poker Deal (Gardner, Vernon, Elliott, Lorayne)
- Two Gamblers & A Magician (Wakeman)
- Magician vs Gambler

I also like to use:

- Head to Head Poker by Paul Gordon
- Poker test 2.0 by Erik Casey

Dani Daortiz also has some great stuff on his lecture!

Bad news....during the actual game,my playing partners always keep a closer eye on me and like to take me down...

Have fun with it!
