Does anyone know where I can get a solid attache style case that's very deep (perhaps 11 inches or more)? This is for placing on a table/stand and working props out of it for a Stage/Parlor type show. The metal attaches from Harbor Freight are great, inexpensive, etc, but I need something larger that can hold more props, and bigger ones. Thanks!

What you are looking for is a carryon suit case, or salesman case.
http://www.fibrecase.com/salesmancases.html They will also make them to your measurements, best to call them. I have a carryon case for air plane. They are reasonably priced as well. |

Thanks, Bill. Yes, I've worked with Fibrecase before and they do solid work. If possible, I would like to find something already made at a store or perhaps online somewhere, rather than get a custom made one at this time... if anyone knows of a place/type.

As someone always on the lookout for "the perfect case", I can say your requirement of 11" is not something that you will find in a regular suitcase.
You will most likely have to make a box case out of 1/4" plywood and 3/8" around the circumference, as most magic tables only use 10" between shelves, and height. Showtime Magic Products makes the Joe Lefler tables and some other cases, but you will pay a hefty price. Still think Fibrecase Company will be your best bet. They can make them deep and long as you require, with 90 degree corner, where most suitcase all use rounded corners and you will lose valuable space. An alternative would be Valutz Cases for office folders and storage. They make a deep large case, which would work. They are also sold at office supply stores like Staples. I suggest you do a Google search. Finally, you just have to go to 2nd hand stores and vintage stores to find old, luggage, but none are that deep. |

Christopher...You asked awhile ago about DELUXE WALSH CANES. I PMd you about two weeks ago. It's still "UNREAD"....
Salesmen carried "catalog cases" for years. Now, they don't. For awhile catalog cases could be found, CHEAP, in thrift stores. (I bought half a dozen for storage--and, one, I worked "out of" for several seasons. Ditto, "sample cases" (fiber) of various sizes. They were also CHEAP. I used several of them, too. I haven't seen any of them for several years. The one that I'm currently using is 13" x 20" x 8", made by IKELHEIMER & ERNST LUGGAGE IN New York NY. I bought it, at least 30 years ago. It "sits" on a waiters tray stand, I have no idea what I paid for it, but, it was reasonable, and still in good shape. The alternative is to "red light" some of those bulky props, or have one made to fit your needs!

Mr. Dick Oslund! My apologies for missing your PM. I don't get on here very much and I think the "You Have A Private Message" sign has become invisible to me since I usually only get advertisements for designer decks of cards. I will check that message ASAP.
Hi Bill - I have used a suitcase table before (not Lefler, but Viking) and it's great, just heavy and bulky. I will also take a look at the Vaultz case. I have one of their small ones and it's pretty good for a temporary fix (it probably won't hold up over heavy use). But you guys have really made me realize I will probably have to get a sample case made like Dick's. Thank you! Oh and yes, I started a prop diet as well |
