What would be the best way to bend a skeleton key to make a thumb ring? Heat it up then wrap it around a pipe?

Just looking for something that would look different and stand out....

It might work better as a bracelet.
For as long as space exists,
And living beings remain in cyclic existence,
For that long, may I too remain,
to dispel the sufferings of the world.

You must have tiny wrists!

I can't imagine a bent, real key would be comfortable.
BUT, when I once again talk to my good friend, Google, he leads me to this:

Well now, after looking at it, I don't think that I like that look now...

Back to the drawing board. Another idea shot to heck...

So, going back to the original post, what is the best way of doing this? I have at least a dozen useless skeleton keys, and one would surely be cool on my finger. I love this idea.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I would check with a local jeweler, I'm sure they can either give you some suggestions or offer to customize it for you.

That is a good idea...... A nice old rusty key would be cool.

Best course is to heat it and bend it around a mandrel with pliers. Just make sure you use the pliers that have no texture on the jaws.

If you bend it cold, it may show cracks.

If they're chromed, be careful. I believe when chrome is heated enough it gives off a gas that's toxic.

Oh, and obviously be careful, don't touch hot metal, etc etc.

You could also try a local blacksmith:

good luck.

A vise and two metal rods should work..... You place the end of the key between the rods to keep the key in place as you heat and bend it.... Sounds like it should work....

Yeah, that would work, too. Oh, and I meant to say last time, you'll probably have to refinish it. Heating metal enough to bend it easily will most likely discolor it.
