Has anyone performed or know any sources for Angel based Bizarre magic. Angels as a theme, good type or fallen. Seems to be a popular subject over the last few years, both in Hollywood & in the local bookstore.

Anyone noticed that quite a few subjects that a Bizarrist could use, the darker subjects that used to scare us as kids, have now been given that more "sanitized" even "nice/acceptable" edge, witches, spells, tarot, book of the dead, ouija boards, rune stones, vampires.Unless it comes out and bites you it can be found in the Spiritual section of your local bookstore. Please don't interpret this as a personal view that this is a bad thing or is unacceptable, it's just that 20 years ago it was unheard of...... enlightened times ? Just means we have to work harder and look for a new slant that still bites Smile

It's a gross misconception that was fortunately pointed out by St. Silent Bob & Co. in "DOGMA" that ANGELS AIN'T PANZIES! John Travolta's "MICHAEL" also points out that they aren't "Saints" and (of all places) the Bible points out that they ARE THEIR OWN RACE (and, actually covet human beings because of our free will, etc.)... just because someone dies DOES NOT MEAN they become an Angel... pure, modern outside the theological loop BS!

Now that I've said my piece on that reality Smile and probably ruined several people's delusional fantasies on such things... let's think about the actual question...

Hmmm... an Angel over your shoulder e.g. PK Touches... An Angel Smites the Unholy Texts e.g. Flame Book... A Smitten Angel (say... Lucifer) Reveals his truth e.g. Ashes on the arm... An Angel heals the weak via Gypsy Thread... An Angels Speaks Truth e.g. Bible Book Test

The answers are there if you simply white wash the darker forms of what we do... They can prove the existence of the Fey just as readily.

OH! FYI... the commercialism of the whole Angel fad is waning... very much on the way out with little exception (such as the Ohio Valley... but then, they just caught on to hip hop... and discovered Email... Smile )

If you really want to do "Macabre" routines involving Angels I'd suggest you do some serious theological research about them... starting with a simple tome entitled "The Magus" ( Smile O.k., those that know it, stop laughing...) Where you will find reference to the score upon score of Angels, Arch-Angels, etc. involved in the Christian/ Hebrew Pantheons... you may also wish to do some study pertaining to these Angels via esoteric references involving the Kabbalah, Sefer Yetzerah and even the Koran... also research the term Gen or (as most of you would know it) Genii... same critters, alternate culture.

From these foundations you can create some very cool material concerning each angel's assigned powers, strengths, gifts, etc. Thus, you can (you'll love this) TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ANGELS and thus, educate people as you entertain them... I know, it's a novel concept, but might be worth trying.

DO NOT buy into all the New Age material put out in the past 10-15 years on Angel sightings, etc. It is pure commercial dredge for the most part, does not coencide with theological/mythological elements steming from biblical foundations.... but hey... most of what's taught in today's world has its short comings.... let's just remember what P.I. Bonewitz says about New Age Trends..."Take them with a small Ukranian Salt Mine..." Smile Smile Smile

I agree with Darmoe, I do a routine that tells about the war in heaven, between good and bad angels.
Have you seen "The Prophecy",

By the way, I believe the word GENII came from
DJINN, an Arab word.

Thanks for the replies and PM's guy's.

The Prophecy series, Dogma etc were the triggers to investigate what I have found to be a really interesting subject. The inspirations for character, dress, routines etc have given me a lot to think about and research.......a new slant maybe, hopefully with the appropriate. "bite" Smile

O.k. Which war?

The myth of Lucifer's Fall... Loki kicking Giant butt... The Olympians ousting the Elder Gods???

How about the Gnostic tales of Ioboath Yahweh's (sp) temper tantrums when he found out he wasn't the only God in heaven?

Smile Soooo very much material to choose from on this topic... Perhaps the smoting thing would be cool... using a variation on Harary's "Perspective" and showing a city in total ruin via the wrath of an Archangel? Smile

The TV series "Supernatural" currently has a storyline involving some kickass angels.

A Treatise on Angel Magic, edited by Adam McLean; Phanes Press, 1990.

Angel Magic, Geoffrey James; Llewellyn Publications, 1995.

Also see The Magus by Francis Barrett, as well as The Key of Solomon the King (Clavicula Salomonis), translated and edited by S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers, and various other grimoires.

And Darmoe is correct. Angels aren't panzies, and they are a different order of being than humans.

Bill, I'll let Darmoe know someone finally said he was right about something. Even if it was 7 years ago... Smile

I developed a seance show using fallen angels (demons) as a source for spirit activity and backed up by various religious texts. I've never performed it and I'm still not sure what the "right" situation would be to do so.
Another interesting thing about fallen angels is that 'back in the day' they mated with human women and produced giants with six fingers on each hand, six toes on each foot and sported double rows of teeth. They wus sum baaad muthas but always got beat by lesser foes according to 'historical' texts.

The links that Bill posted look interesting. Angel Magic? Probably good stuff.

One of the books that isn't in the bible is the Book of Solomon. It tells how Solomon had a ring that allowed him to subdue demons and how he made those demons build the foundation for the temple in Israel. I haven't read it yet but I'm going to. "one ring to rule them all" Smile
