Great list Scott!
Just remembered that I read somewhere that the letters "ough" have more pronounciations than any other group of letters in English. I can think of these five, but there may be more: tough though cough drought through -Reg {*}

Reg, to that 'gh' list you might want to add the name:
'Featherstonhaugh' which is pronounced 'Fanshaw', though what the 'gh' sounds like in that word is anybody's guess . Scott, I scoured my memory for words beginning with an 'F' sounding 'gh' and could only come up with 'gherkin', meaning 'a measure of ale'. And, of course, there's always 'ghoulery'... 2. why is the word abbreviation such a long word? And slang terms are the worst ex. come on, my ass you're ****ting me break a leg look at that/those rack,cans,mug,headlights, etc... |
