Are there tricks you carry around, maybe not all the time, but just in case a specific situation arises?
For instance, I carried Ellusionist'c Chaptrick last winter, and at the end of a meeting I saw a woman putting on chapstick. So I just stated,"Did you know that Chapstick is magical?" Also I now carry a card with the pips all scrambled in case I see a kid with a fidget spinner. I show two card, with the scramble card DL's, then put the spinner on top of the deck, spin it, and reveal the scrambled card. Then I tell the parent this is what will happen to their childs brain from the spinner (with a wink). |

Not really, the tricks I tend to carry are all-purpose tricks rather than just occasional special use tricks. Maybe in the at a moments notice forum you'll get more input

Bracelet through wrist
Tokyo Penetration (predating and similar to the bill through bill part of Clean Thru Clear Thru.) I also carry a deck of cards in my purse but I never use it except to practice flourishes and such if I'm waiting for something in the car or other setting (alone). It has come in handy in a few hospital waiting situations. -Mary Mowder |

Nothing ever.
It's made me better to be able to find things and use them on the spot. IMO, best decision ever. Plus, I'm not so keen on being 'the guy' that carries tricks around. In fact, yesterday I did the "disgusting" 4-bean trick with 4 kernels of popcorn, which I find utterly hilarious and entertaining.

I carry the "flip" $1 to $20 in my wallet, simply because it's there and doesn't take up any room. I also have a double faced playing card in my wallet. I will usually grab my "Wha-The" (Rodger Lovins) and stick it in my pocket when I leave. This gets great reactions and is a good ice breaker.

There is always a pen or pencil around, and with a simple paddle move. You can make the print appear and disappear. Also, if you're at a Chinese restaurant you can use chopsticks. Or in a Starbucks you can use a coffee stirer.
With borrowed coins or keys and a shuttle pass or French drop , you can perform quite a bit of magic. Both are super easy to learn. If you have a pre-bent coin in your pocket with a simple switch using the previously mentioned slights, you can do a bent coin routine. And please do not get hung up on having the coin signed, that's a magi thing. Eugene Burger, Bob Solari ,Roger Klause. And many others, All have a fantastic Bill transpo effects. I was once and lowes. In the electrical department. Being helped by a store associate, when I spotted an open bag of zip ties and performed the Joe Monti , Thumb tie escape. That was fun. And also super easy to learn and carry with you. There are a zillion packet tricks that will fit in your shirt pocket or wallet etc. One of my favorites is Bwave . It is truly sleight free. With a pen and some biz cards, you can go mental-ism.There are some amazing resources on just biz cards only, Ran Pink and 13 steps. just to start. Have fun, Dave. |

I am not talking about the stuff one carries much of the time, just in case magic is needed. I am talking about specific tricks for a specific situation that MIGHT come up. Anniversary Waltz might be one, in case of encountering newlyweds, the recently engaged, or the otherwise amorous pair.

I have a lot of real effects to carry for hypothetical events. The problem is knowing which event to be ready for.

QB 2.0 Perfect for a couple because they each put their initials on each side of the quarter.
Or they could put the date or a heart. Then it gets bent and they keep it as a memory of that special day. Perfect for couples or anybody. Amy I right John T Sheets?

Sorry Doc, I read that is was just what good to have in pockets.
"Fortune Tellers Book" for Birthday or Anniversry or any special day. "Foreign Affair" or "CSB" if people happened to be traveling/visit US "24-Karat Fold" by Gregory Wilson - if a couple is getting engaged ask for a bill and change the bill to a "bill ring" and give to them as a keepsake! Thanx Steph

I usually like to keep an ordinary pack of cards, a memorized deck, four or five coin gaffs, sponge balls, ring flight, linking rings, a Russian Roulette routine, a floating rose set-up, Bowl-A-Rama, and a gimmicked rubber chicken.
No, but seriously, I don't like to carry my show with me when I'm out and about. In fairness, I usually have a deck of cards in case I want to perform or in case I want to practice something on a down moment. I always wear my rings and I can do some stuff with them. I always have my phone, and I have a couple things I can do with that. Sometimes I carry some coins, sometimes not. And I always have my business cards. I keep them in the Stockholder wallet, so I'm always set up to do something with them. I could get over an hour out of that stuff if I really wanted to, and if that wasn't enough, I could pick up sugar packets, dollar bills, pebbles, or swizzle sticks from wherever I happen to be and get another hour. But the real answer is, if I'm just out enjoying my life, the most I ever really want to do is one or two tricks and get my business card into someone's hands. I like to share the magic, but if they want to see more than that, they can hire me. The exception to that being, if I'm going out with friends and PLAN on doing some magic at the dinner table or for people in the bar or whatever. Then I plan just as if I were doing a real show (because it IS a real show, even if I'm not being paid for it) and bring whatever props I want to. Often those are the early trial runs of new close-up material. As for those hypothetical events that MIGHT sometimes occur...well, I don't really know how to plan for those. What usually happens is, I'll find myself in some situation, say "Oh man, I wish I had my _____ with me today," and then if it's a really good idea, I'll try to find a way to recreate the situation when I'm prepared for it. Or if the event happens to occur at an actual event where I'm performing, then I have a few things in my case. I keep some cards for Anniversary Waltz, I keep some cards for a birthday card trick I do, that kind of thing.
