Hi Don, the orchestra played 'Sailor,Beware' for the milk can escape and "Asleep in the deep' for the water torture cell.
I have heard "asleep in the deep' and it's a product of it's time.

Don,
Marie Blood (Houdini's niece) says he played "Pomp and Circumstance" in the beginning of his stage shows.

I think a box, bag, cuffs, and lil, Bessie.

 Smile Smile

You need escape music, ask Shawn about his escape music CD..it will be far more entertaining than Houdini's. With all due respect, if the "great one" were here today you can bet he wouldn't be performing to Asleep in the Deep.

Lloyd there are certain reasons why I'm looking for this music. I have found the two above titles but one is Sung by Bing Crosby. And the other one is played by Jazz Musicians. I'm not sure if this went with his era. The Pomp and Circumstance is very easy to track down.

Try contacting Nancy Porter Productions. They used some period Houdini music in their film a few years back:

Riley Thank You I'll give them a try most of my E-Mails have gone unanswered that's why I'm posting here. Don, P.S. I'm surprised that theres very little obtainable information on the way he might of presented his escapes/tricks meaning what he said or how he presented them even the Music he used it seems like a lot of Information might be Lost. You can find "Asleep in the Deep" here. Click on the second melody - this may be just right for you. Houdini's audiences would sing along with the band/orchestra during escapes, but maybe Metamorphosis was too fast for any music?

Riley Thanks Again I can also find Sheet Music for Asleep in the Deep but nothing for Sailor Beware I wonder why. any clue as to what Houdini might of Used for Metamorphosis. I would do the sing along but I don't think anyone in the Audience will know the words to the song. if I can I might have someone play it on the piano/organ for me if she can. Don,

"Asleep in the deep" was also known as "Stormy the night" AND "Sailor Beware",(check out the chorus!). It was a popular Music Hall song in Houdini's early days (1900 - ), I think it was written in 1897.
The Bing Crosby "Sailor Beware" was written in the 1940's - not the same song/tune.
Can't help with the Metamorphosis question.

Don, I just can’t help but to add a little humor at times...no offense.

From all accounts that I have read Riley is most likely correct regarding Metamorphosis and no music being used.

Entertainment of that time was a lot different from what we consider entertainment today. It was a full evening event. The audiences participated by singing along, acting up, voicing their pleasure or displeasure. There would be no logical reason to have music being played with Metamorphosis.

On the other hand the orchestra was likely to drum up a tune for an escape such as the Milk Can or other lengthy escape, to help pass the time. And believe it or not that entertained people of that day. Smile What no fog or lazer lights? Smile Smile

As far as being able to hear these tunes, I believe if you will do a tertiary investigation on your favorite search engines you will find many links most of which include a place to click to listen to the song.

You may put your fears to rest of these songs being forgotten or the programming of Houdini, I believe you will find they are well recorded in various accounts of the master’s life.

Books and the internet, aren't they great!! Smile
