Yes, Johnny Thompson, "The Great Tomsoni" is an amazing magician alright. A wonderful old world close-up man, that was again an accomplished coin guy as well. There's so many of them and I'm glad that so many of you guys keep remembering them. Smile They all certainly show what greater magic can happen when you mix it up a bit. Thanks Larry, and while you're not "old world" as of yet, Smile you certainly have shown your greater potential with all the wonderful close-up/ parlor magic you've created & shared with the world, not to mention some amazing coin magic as well. Smile And I continue to encourage you all to check out his marvelous work and craftsmanship at: www.barnowskymagic.com

*Oh and hey, this is pretty darn clever and a little off the beaten path as to coins...It'll take more than a good coins across or coins through the table to beat something like this out as an effect...This is "Mickey Silver" level as to pure amazement & presentation. Smile Just wonderful creativity, and yes, using our beloved coins given a little spicey seasoning. Smile Man, if you're doing great closeup magic these days, you really should be doing this...It sure takes coin magic in an interestingly updated and aomewhat different direction. Smile What do ya think? Smile

Here's another wonderful coin man that understands that the variety of great close-up magic actually helps your coin work to be that much more appreciated and admired...He also understands how much amazement can be had by the "Less is More" of the old Tricky Quickie. Smile

Watching all this in real time for real people is always what sells it most for me. To watch seasoned pros create and perform their wonderful works, especially practical stuff, is wonderful because we can do it too. Smile And that it sometimes is one of our very own here, well that truly makes it real. Smile Coin guys do the old Copper & Silver Transpositions in a variety of ways, but when an award winning close-up man takes the old idea and kicks it up a few notches to Gold & Diamonds, well see for yourself... PD, you mention a few really good closeup guys, and for me Jonathan Kamm is just your consummate working pro. He's mostly a card guy (and a really good one at that) but can do it all, including our coin stuff about as good or better than we can do it. Smile Actually, I've seen him do a bit of Sankey's closeup work. Love to see when a guy this good recognizes other good work/workers, and performs it where the originator would be proud. Smile

Anyway, here's a bit of the good old, "Less is More." Smile

MB, thanks for sharing this absolute beauty.

I hope I am not off-topic by asking, but is this specific vanish properly taught on any of Sankey's DVDs or any other good instructional DVD/source ?

It looked a whole lot like MB's Quick Pitch - so you could start there.
At the very least it would get you 90% of the way there to be able to recreate the rest, though MB could confirm if it's exactly the same.

Thanks for the interest in this one gooch, and welcome to the Café. Smile

It really is a nice little trick, done by an absolute stud of a performer IMHO, as to closeup magic. Jonathan Kamm is the real deal, one of those in-the-trenches journeyman that does the real work day-in and day-out, one get-together after another at a wedding, a bar, birthday party, whatever! His card work is stellar, but he can do it all as you see here in this little quickie-tricky. Smile

I believe this is just a little something Kamm came up with for himself, probably just playing around (that's how it's done mostly). Smile It is made of basic coin moves really (maybe one intermediate move in there), a bit different than my Quick Pitch but clearly as relatively effective for what he's doing here. It's really a nifty trick and reminds me of long ago when I first saw something that coin man, Dan Watkins was doing in his pet transposition effect. I gotta tell'ya, it was just a remarkable little trick to watch and really peeked my interest to no end back then. Those were the days. Smile

Anyway, this is a well done little effect from Kamm, glad others like it too. And thanks, tons for mentioning me anywhere in the vicinity of a Jonathan Kamm. Smile

Sorry for me the Jonathan Kamm deal is what is wrong with coin magic. if you cant see the throw motion and unclean ending then who do you do your magic to? 5 year olds? because anyone 10 and older will catch on or demand a clean showing. I have things I will not reveal. but the public I deal with will not put up with gimmicky looking vanishes. if you can make that work, good for you. wish you the best.

@tonsofquestions - Thanks for the pointer.

@Marion,

Thank you for your elaborate, kind and prompt response.

I looked to find a reference for your Quick Pitch tutorial which took quite some searching as the word QP is not mentioned on vinnymarini. After searching on TMC I understand that QP can be found on 1) ReVisiTed, 2) CC REDUX (but I did not find it referenced on vinnymarini), and 3) to some extend on Double Trouble.

So I just headed of to vinnymarini and got some of your videos.

As I am a novice to coin magic, this might be the start of a new journey... We'll see where the path takes us.

One step at a time ツ

Y'know, I first began better appreciating the grander show of close-up magic from watching a remarkable worker, who once again is an incredible coin man as well. To watch this guy go from one level to another so effortlessly was amazing, and it all began with a coin, but it went into so much more. All the rest of the magic gives you a glimpse of a magician and routine that shows why I've thought "I Love Coin Magic, BUT..." ever since... Smile

Marion I was getting ready to pm you about some coin questions. I saw your post and had a relatable story.

One day I was in New York city with my daughter. We were in guitar center playing all the guitars and drums. So I wind up in the guitar room playing and a few feet away was a young kid playing too

So I'm hearing him and I'm thinking, wow I wish I could do what he's doing. Sounds cool.

So a few minutes later he says to me, "wow you have some cool licks I wish I could do that."

So him and I end up playing together and giving each other advice.

We all want what's on the other side of the pond. We don't realize others want what we have.

So anyway I'm going to pm you.

Yes, Rick Merrill is one of the very best out there, and for a long time now. He seemingly doesn't get mentioned much, but as you can see, he's all that & more. And again, as you can see, an excellent coin man as well. Smile

Love this guy too, the chops he has with anything he touches as an elite closeup man and magic creator are just off the charts... Smile When you think of a guy just doing coin magic vs. a guy like this, well, you're missing a lot, IMHO. Smile

I recently discovered Simon Coronel on Youtube. He is Australian and won some kind of FISM regional competition there. He can do it all it looks like. The first trick is the best bill switch I have ever seen! He does 3 fly next and proves that it really can be done as a stand alone trick...very cool presentation. Then a simple card trick...again a very cool presentation. He does it on a stage in front of a large crowd. I do have some advice for him though...Don't cuss in church! LOL. Watched all of his vids. Very good all around magician. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIGjVFo7xoc

He did a very similar bit on P&T:FU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g2R4CIRZ34
I liked that one a little better as I felt it flowed a little better - an extra year of refinement does that - but I also noticed Penn's primary comment the first time I saw it. Still marvelous, though.
