Joey Chestnut does it again: winner of the 2017 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest: 72 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes, for his tenth win.

Here's a radio interview I did with him last year:

If you're keeping score at home, that's a hot dog every 8 1/3 seconds. For ten minutes. Dannnnnggggggggggg.

Question - Is this an actual sport?
If you need fear to enforce your beliefs, then your beliefs are worthless.

Is it an indictment of our society?
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

No, I don't think so.

On another note, I'll wager that in the days that follow a competition, he must drop some massive turds.

We watch it every year. It's like a car accident. We don't want to...but we can't look away.

If wondering what happens after a contest...

Also, hot dog eating contest was featured in the book Freakonomics. Check out how a skinny engineering student from Japan revolutionaized the sport...

In the interview I did with him (link in the first post), Joey talks about his training methods and ... the days after the contest.

BTW Joey doesn't just eat hot dogs. He has records for eating, among other things, Twinkies and brain tacos.

The great Joey Chestnut today won his 12th title! No new record, though--he only ate 71 this time.

The most recent 30 for 30 film by ESPN called "The Good, The Bad, The Hungry"explores the world of competitive eating and the rivalry between Kobayashi and Chestnut. Like almost all ofthe 30 for 30 films, it's excellent. Find it and watch it.
