I've been doing card magic for sometime now (you have to start somewhere) but I want to start getting into coin magic. What are the five coin manuvers I should start out learning. Sometime down the line I'd like to learn a Matix style coin trick.
Thanks Guys |

Very true, You do have to start somewhere. I started with coin magic. I'm just now getting into card magic. I'm your mirror opposite. Ha, ha.
My advice, check out J.B. Bobo's book. Modern coin magic. It's the bible of coin magic. Also check out sites like http://www.coinmagic.com and http://www.coinvanish.com Both very very good sites. Please check out the forum for coin magic on this site as well. Hope this helps. Brian |

I'm pretty new to Coin magic myself.
Check out the videos on the suggested site, http://www.coinvanish.com It helps to put a routine with a name (such as the scotch and soda). And his Coinvanish Trio is just superb! As I learn more I have a good idea how he accomplished most of the items he does in that video, but to do it with that much grace... hehe... one day.... |

Thanks Chess
I'll take a look at the site, I've also found that going on the google search engine has been a great help And just remember with practice comes the grace you desire Thanks again |

Wow great job Dan. I am new to coin magic also and your site has been a great help. Being able to see the slights and some routines has helped besides just reading about them.
Thanks for a great site Kevin |

I too agree with the above, Bobo is the one to begin with, I started with this, I have just purchased the Michael Ammar DVD called
"The Complete Introduction to Coin Magic" this features a bit of the moves in the Bobo book along with many others, I feel this dvd is a must have as it details history of a sleight as well, do the others agree?? regards Trevor |

Has anyone taken a look at the Encyclopedia Of Coin Sleights? I have the Encyclopedia Of Card Sleights by Daryl and that has been a great help for quick reference. But I do have to agree with gimmick1586 about Bobo, that's the best thing to start with, does anyone else have any good books that they can suggest for starting out in coin magic
Peace |

You can also try David Roth's Expert Coin Magic. It teaches you various sleights from basic to advance. There are many routines in it as well, from gaffs to coin box. Another good book will be Richard Kaufmann's Coin Magic, not a book for beginner though.

Did you say you wanted to know what moves to learn? I would say the French Drop, And a False Transfer over anything else.

I do French drop and matrix using coins/sugar cubes / bottle tops. Also coin through table.
Maybe look at Craig Petty's Coin Bag for something different. I attended his lecture in December and he was really good at teaching. Are you using normal coins or gaff one's? There are many good routines using the latter. But they still take practise. Bobo is a great start and I got an on-line teaching schedule that stopped me just ploughing through all the moves in a week.

Coinvanish.com is a great site to look at if you are starting into coin magic.
Also get one of the following dvd's David Roth's Expert Coin Magic Made Easy, Volumes 1,2, & 3 Michael Ammar's Complete Introduction to Coin Magic DVD David Stone's Coin Magic Videos, Volumes 1 & 2. All three are excellent. coinvanish.com has an excellent review and comparison of all the three. My suggestion would be to get two of them atleast. Read the reviews and see which one of them you like most. This along with Bobo's modern coin magic(ebook is available at lybrary.com) will keep you busy for a long time. |

As you master "coin Sleights" try them with other objects as well -- think "Small Object" rather than be limited to coins. I have found the Utility Pass and Switch the most versitile. Your first purchase should be an Expanded Shell.

I'd recommend Michael Ammar's "The Complete Introduction to Coin Magic." Also, any of David Roth's stuff. I know this will ruffle a lot of feathers, but I think Bobo's is over-rated. Good to have, but other newer sources are better for learning.

I feel Bobo's seem to to be overrated because the extensive amount of stuff in it makes it a little tough for a beginner. More over its a book and many of us prefer videos over books.
