Hello to everybody!
My name is Joseph Enoch though I've picked the stage name of "The great Sackra" (probably should change it) I'm 21 years old and I'm from Mexico, I've heard of this place from a book that recomended it to me really great stuff in here; there's no forum like this that I know of. I wanted to register since I saw it for the first time, but I wasn't able for the email restriction for free email service providers so I had to find another email provider and ended up creating one with GoDady just to be able to enter here. I'm quite new to magic, though I've been practicing since 8 years old all sorts of magic sporadically though, specially from highschool all the way to college, in which I had a lot of fun hypnotizing my roommates and friends. I really love magic; the subjects I'm interested is practically all of them, though most of people tell me that I must pick one, I love all magic: from escapism and stage magic (though not my most likable one) through cardistry to my best favorite of all Mentalism. My greatest dream is to perform to great crouds an act I've been planning for years where I just put every type of magic to awsome the spectator. Well if you still reading after all that I would like to ask you guys for some sources to find more about magic I've used youtube of course, read the classic books in magic like Mark Wilson's "Complete course in Magic",(probably should be titled the Bible of Cardistry) Anneman's "202 Methods of Forcing", Anneman's "Practical Mental Magic", Corinda's "13 steps to mentalism" (I would call it the Bible of Mentalism) and Ormond McGill's "Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism". I would love to perfect my cardistry and mentalism to an expert level so any other source thank you so much ahead of time. I hope I'll be able to know y'all much better and perhaps one day see you performing. Greetings to y'all and may the magic be with you hahaha. |

Welcome ThegreatSackra,
You don't have to choose one field of interest. You might want to stick to one market or separate your business markets but your interests should be free to roam. Glad you found a way to join. -Mary Mowder |

YES! My dear friend, Mary, is absolutely CORRECT!
"You don't have to choose one field of interest!" I would recommend that you study "MAGIC". Some areas may, as you learn, appeal to you more than others, BUT, to be a "well rounded magician", you need to know more than, for example, just cards. Magic "is" 5% sleight of hand, 5% perceptual illusion, 5% esoteric principle of science, and EIGHTY-FIVE PERCENT P S Y C H O L O G Y!!! Magic is not inherently entertaining. Your presentation, as you perform a trick, helps to create the magic EFFECT in the mind(s) of the spectator(s). You've read some very worthwhile books! I would strongly suggest that you read "THE TARBELL COURSE IN MAGIC" for a well rounded introduction to magic. "Tarbell" was written in 1927 as a correspondence school course for people interested in magic. Tarbell's suggested patter and presentation is now, somewhat ARCHAIC, but the PRINCIPLES are the important thing. Tarbell is available in pdf. (FREE!) or in 8 hardbound volumes @ about $20/volume. The hard bound volumes, six of which were published in the '40s, were revised slightly, and "updated". Volume 7 was written by Harry Lorayne, who selected material from a variety of well qualified magicians. It's very good. Volume 8 is, essentially, a "history" of the course. I would suggest, BTW, that you "lose" that stage name that you, probably innocently enough, selected! (You "aint" GREAT, yet!!!) --but, you CAN become great! (It's up to YOU!)

Sackra -- If you "sense" that cardistry is Dick Oslund's favorite magic interest, then mentalism might not be your thing. (Dick is a legendary children's performer.)
It's still magic even if you know how it's done.

Doesn't >THAT< COUNT FOR SOMETHING??? Well, at least I AM a legend (in my own mind)
