Hi - I have a way of predicting a serial number on a spectators bill that I think is unique. I am about to film the effect, and I am considering selling it to our community. It probably will be a DVD for around $10. I was wondering if this is a good idea that magicians might consider buying. Of course it depends upon how good and clean it looks. But assuming that my description is true, would you be interested?
Here is what the spectator sees: I write a prediction on my business card, and put it face down. I borrow a bill and show the serial numbers. I hand them the bill and have them check my prediction -- it matches. Points: They see no folding or TT. I don't use my pockets. Start clean - end clean. This needs a presentation, so here is the patter that I have been using (I've been performing this for a few years.) “Do you have a dollar I can use for a trick”? “Don’t take it out just yet. I need to write a prediction on my business card.” “See? I wrote ‘A PREDICTION’ on my business card.” “I know – dumb magician’s joke # 179.” “I’ll put that down, and we’ll use it in just a minute.” “Now, take out your dollar.” “As you know, all dollars have a unique serial number – which I’ll show you.” “A bill should have 2 of these numbers on the front that are both the same.” “But yours is different. It has a 3rd number. Not on the back of the bill, but on the back of my business card.” “See, I really did write a prediction, Does it match?” What do you think? Should I try to produce and sell this? Thanks for your opinions. Dennis |

The description sounds nice. I would like to see a video performance before determining if I think it might be a marketable effect. Just my (devalued) 2 cents.

Of course. I will make a demo, but you'll have to trust that the borrowed bill is not seen before the prediction is written. I may have to stage the demo to get it on here quickly, unless I can get my restaurant gig customers to allow it to be filmed (should be possible, but I don't have a photographer at the restaurant - hopefully a customer can do the video).
This is one of those effects that fries laymen, even if not done perfectly. What I have tried to create is the effect done in such a way as to fool magicians (so I can sell it). If I end up not producing a product, I'll just share it om the Café. Thanks, Dennis |

Hi Dennis, are you predicting the entire number or just 2-3.
Best Steve

Hi Steve,
I'm predicting the entire number. Interestingly, some customers have complained that I didn't predict the letters that are in the serial number. I could, but it might cause the effect to be "too perfect". Also, when I do this as a stage effect, I have the audience give me the digits to write down - so it looks like their prediction. I'm trying to get a quick demo out for the Café. It won't be like a production - just a draft of what this looks like. I'll make it a continuous live video with a random spectator. Best, Dennis |
