Thanks for posting here Greg, great video. I am really enjoying the many effects on inject - looking forward to the new forum!

Recently I have bought a second hand Pebble watch and installed the free ESP version of Inject 2.0.
I now have some questions which I hope Greg or any other owner of Inject 2.0 can help me with.

1) When I downloaded the free ESP version of Inject 2.0 it said that there is an in-app purchase of 89,90 euros (I live in the Netherlands).
Now that is nearly 110,- dollars, this is while Penguin has it listed for 75,- dollars.
Is there something I am overseeing here?

2) With the free ESP version is it possible to send notifications to a Pebble watch or will this only work when buying the complete app?

3) With the app running in the background does your screen still has to be on, or can you lock your screen and still receive notifications on your phone screen and Pebble screen?

4) When I used the ESP testlink on another phone, although swipping the Safari app to be closed, after reopening the Safari app it went straight back to the last website (which was the testlink).
Whill this also be the case when you have bought the complete app?

Hi Marc,

1. If it's cheaper for you to purchase it from Penguin, then purchase it from Penguin.

2. The free esp effect does not support any notifications.

3. There are two notifications in Inject. With push notifications, your phone can be sleeping and you'll still get notifications.
This does not work for all effects ... when it comes to ESP, you'll have to run the app to use it (and you can use a watch in the full version).

4. There are links in Inject that are designed to disappear from the spectator's history and there are other effects that don't make sense for them to disappear.
It depends on what type of effect you're performing.

Thanks to an earlier post I picked up a Martian watch on eBay for a bargain, it works beautifully with the fully paid version of Inject - I am very pleased with my purchase, thank you to the person who recommended the watch, it is very discreet and perfect for a number of magic apps.

This might be a dumb question, however I need to ask as I am on the verge of buying : Is it worth owning both? This and Wikitest? I am a proud owner of wikitest and I love the method and the way it pairs. Do you think the effects to be that different from the spectators point of view that I would use both? I like the effects I saw with inject and I believe that one could make a cohesive routine using both apps, what are your opinions?

Btw: my favourite effect is the one, where spec. is asked to think about cellebrity and it is googled by magician. As seen on Gregs youtube (inject on stage in Las Vegas) do I need accomplice to achieve it that way?

I think I might be qualified to give an answer. I am a long time user of WikiTest and I have owned Inject now for about two weeks and have been actively experimenting with it.

1. Inject does NOT have a better paring system than WikiTest.

I work in IT, cybersecurity and training to be specific and having people use real google to pair is MARVELOUS and even works well with IT knowledgeable volenteers.

Wikitest works well with my Pebble watch also.

The only real downside to WikiTest is that it is a one trick pony.

2. Inject's pairing system is a pain point especially if you are used to something as slick as WikiTest. The new feature "google image" in Inject is the best pairing system it has and it can have limitations especially during 'busy times' like Fri/Sat nights (in my experience so far). With some keyword practice, this can be made smooth.

3. All of the other features (and there are BOATLOADS OF FEATURES) require you to handle the spec's phone (which some specs don't like) or have them go to a cloogy URL. My next project is to put my personal cloogy URL into a link / button on my web page to mitigate this issue if I can.

In summary, I personally would advise having BOTH. Once you get over the disappointment in Inject's paring system(s) you will find it has some excellent built-in features and some amazing ability to customize. I would also STRONGLY suggest budgeting in a Bluetooth helper and a smartwatch like a cheap used Pebble. I don't think I can get into much more detail in a public post.

In retrospect, I should have added some prices to my budget recommendations.

I got a very good used old-style Pebble smartwatch that works very well with both WikiTest and Inject for $25 on ebay.

There is a GREAT bluetooth helper for androids you can get new on Amazon for about $10 but it sadly is only for Android.

The Inject facebook page is helpful, BUT because facebook streams the information, it is too easy for things to be lost when a post truncated reply or flows down the stream. Rumor is that a better support forum is in the works which is SORELY needed as Inject is more like a 'kit' or a system with amazing features that are difficult to document in a social media stream.

I guess I knew that about the pairing, not a fan of dictating urls to specs (even though it makes sense for many of inject effects), but I like the other method where you handle their phone, which makes perfect sense as you google for a prediction they cant see . I guess I am getting the app by the end of a week ☺️...

Has anyone ever had a spectator notice the fake URLs? I saw a demo of this and the fake URL really stood out to me. So it makes me think some participants might too

Yes.

The exception is the "google image" feature that is the one thing that does not suffer from a serious URL issue.

The "work around" is the pull the screen down or turn the phone to landscape which adds workload to the presentation and often time the spectator will just rotate the phone back which then causes the phone to go back up to the top. Lots of fiddling. Best thing to do is to move on with the routine quickly before the spec has time to pay attention to the URL.


Hopefully, in the future, all of the features can me paired with a system more like the "google image" routine.

I have both wikitest and inject and both work great with my Martian watch that I picked up from eBay for £25.00. Both apps offer completely different effects but I agree that the fake urls of inject are a bit of a bug bear of mine and hope that they might be updated someday so that the urls look more genuine like wikitest.

I would like to clarify why we have chosen the URLs and the different pairing methods in Inject.

1. The URLs of Inject:

A LOT of thought has gone into the structure of Inject's URLs.
Each URL is made of three parts.
You can currently customize two parts of the URL (soon you'll be able to customize ALL three parts of your URLs).

There are three base (domain name) URLs that you can use with Inject (we are working on two more that we'll announce in the next few weeks).

Most of the time when I perform, I type the URL for the spectator (for speed). The domain name that I choose is determined by the effect that I'm performing.

For example:

If I'm performing the Houdini effect, I'll use the Google Images looking URL.
This especially makes sense when I ask the spectator to do a Google Image search for Houdini.

If I'm performing an effect where the search results are found in Google, Maps, or YouTube, I choose the shortest URL (which is only 6 characters).
The purpose of the shortest URL is SPEED.
Since this URL will NEVER be seen by a spectator, then it doesn't matter what I type into their phone.

If I'm performing the Google peek effect, the reason why I'll use the Google looking URL is because it starts with "GOOGLE".
You can freely show your spectators what you're typing as you slowly turn their phone away from them.
There is NO doubt in their mind that you've typed "GOOGLE" since they saw you type it in the address bar.

When it comes to the other parts of the URL, you can customize how your URL ends.
Hence, if you're performing the Houdini effect, then your URL can end with "houdini.jpg".

Notice the ".jpg" ... most people know this extension is for a JPEG file.
Everybody in IT would tell you that a link to a ".jpg" file can not be changed (that's the reason why it is so deceptive).

2. The pairing methods of Inject:

The new auto-pairing method was designed for SPEED and INVISIBILITY.

We considered number (or code) based pairing methods back in early 2014 when we were making RA (RACAAN).
We looked at methods were the magician had to input a number or code on his phone to pair with the spectator's device.

We abandoned this idea because:

A. We didn't want the magician to use ANY technology (let alone his smartphone).
B. We felt any justification of having the magician enter a number or code on his phone would be long-winded and unnecessary.
C. We also dismissed ideas of shared WiFi and location data because we knew that would not be reliable (and scarce).

Hence, we chose a system where each account has a unique URL, that either the magician or the spectator type on a borrowed phone.
This way, the magician's phone can stay in his pocket.

Then, in 2016, we started looking at various auto-pairing methods.

In our quest for the ultimate auto-pairing solution, we even looked at a technology (created by Google) that generates a high pitched inaudible sound from the spectator's phone that the magician's phone could pick up and pair with.
We abandoned this idea due to several technical difficulties that made it unreliable.

Our goal was, it had to be FAST, INVISIBLE, and RELIABLE.

We feel the current auto-paring method satisfies all three design goals.

FAST because, the spectator goes DIRECTLY to a "Google" like page.
INVISIBLE because, the magician never brings out his phone.
RELIABLE because, we give the magician feedback (vibration codes) that signal the slight modification that he might make to his presentation.

We feel this auto-pairing method satisfies my goal of providing the magician the FASTEST (and most direct) way of performing.

When it comes to the question of how Inject compares to other apps, I feel that all of the apps on the market have their place.
Regardless of the app using the magician's phone or not, each performer will find a venue that justifies their routine.

Hi. when you at auto pairing mode, do you tell your spec to type the adress? I did it over the phone and the results was good .are you performing it over phone?

I too have jumped in and purchased. Too many great reviews here and in the 'Trick of 2017' thread as well. I echo the comments; there is so much in this one package and with so many options and ways to go with this - both in terms of actual tricks and also in one's individual approach. In truth - there a few blockbuster effects included that by themselves make this worth the price. You will have to spend a fair amount of time playing with it on your own (a few hours, in my case - and I've just scratched the surface). But in that time I think most magi will come away feeling pretty excited about getting this up and running. Nothing short of genius. (Magic) hats off to Greg and co. Well done!
