Hello Mike, you have perfectly expressed what I was thinking. Take it out, put it back, take it out again (a nonsense)...
At this point I have a question. What is the best version of drawing duplication you have ever seen using business cards? I've seen a lot of them but noone has convinced me. Thanks Academy |

Acadeny,
I'd have to do some thinking and research into your question. My immediate reaction is to ask if you have ever seen Patrick Kuffs' "Bold Business" effect on his "Mind Stunts" DVD? It is a pretty clean (but somewhat BOLD) method. All Kuffs' effect requires is a bunch of normal business cards and a writing implement. I'm partial to Sharpies both because they make a better impression (i.e., easier to glimpse) and because you are then ready to segue into another great effect called "Xpert" by Neil Tobin (Necromancer here on the Café). And, you can then segue from that into Bryn Hunter's (Mindhunter here on the Café) killer "BusinessCOIN Prediction" effect. Mike P.S. On second thought, forget that I mentioned Bold Business, Xpert and BusinessCOIN Prediction. They are all too good for general circulation. (grin) Besides, why would anyone want to routine three different effects into an entertaining 10 minute performance block? Neil, Thanks for sharing. Your presentation addressed all of my concerns--including the justification and use of the rubberband. Now, please don't share such ideas with anyone else. (grin) I've PMed you my presentational ideas on this effect. Feel free to print them out and use the paper to cover that stain on your kitchen wall. Mike

I got it when I purchased bob solaris lecture notes - so I did not get it on "its own" it was part of the booklet. But, I use it, like it, and have never had a problem with it. Its all what you make of it and do with it. I have used thought transmitter in the past and while I like it and thinks its a great utility device, it has its drawbacks and of course you can't do it in certain conditions; which you CAN do with solaris poor mans version. Like it, use it and am happy with it, but that's me.

Turk expressed my concerns completely.
I've held off purchasing this because the method seemed so painfully obvious. Plus, who carries business cards wrapped in rubber bands? And why in the world, would you put the spectator's card back into the middle of the stack of rubber-banded business cards? That screams the magician is doing something "fishy." I would appreciate hearing subtleties around this dilema. |

I like it. I like it in some ways more than my own version here. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......art=0#18 . I added the Card Case though. It's simple. I do have and LIKE the Thought transmitter, but, this is good too, as people do carry their business cards around. I just need to fine a thich business card case...hmmm...lol, Thanks, Ed, (Eddini).

I too thought the bit about taking out a card out...draw.. spectator fill in...return to stack as pointless.
Why not just simply ask for their card.... then you have a reason for putting the card deep into your stack of business cards (possibly even have some othe business cards on one side of the stack to 'sell' that you actually put people's cards here until you get back home/office. Just a thought - it may make it a little more beleivable. Cheers Andrew |

With regards to using business cards, I prefer using the Stealth Wallet.
Business Minded looks pretty cool, though obvious to a lot of us, but I think if done well, presentation wise and all, it should fly by quite nicely. Frankly, as a stand alone effect it is weak and over much too soon, but incorporate it into a larger routine and it will only make it stronger.

The old addage, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" applies to Thought Transmitter for me. I've been doing it ever since Joel Bauer did the effect for me in Denny and Lee's Magic Shop almost 12 years ago (I think it was that far back - man I'm getting old). For me it's only one card I (the spectator) use, they do all the handling and placing of the card, all I do is tranfer (the closed wallet) it from their hand to mind and place their hand over mine, then I devine their writting.
At the end they go home with the card they wrote on and it is of course my business card.
In the shadows, just on the edge of your nightmares. That's where you'll find me.

The problem I have always had with transmitter is...people write on it and I have had them mention the "thickness" of it with only a few post-its on it. It remains in the drawer as impractical "convention item".

I've actually never had anyone notice the transmitter, although I've been waiting for it. If it's method could be built in to a more natural looking pad, it' be a hit.

Bloodkin,
Agreed.....Once one person caught on...seemed to spread like the plague. And it was different people at different locations. Might have been routining issue or something I said....not sure, just put it away and continued the quest for the next gadget. |
