Take a break and then come back to it. I find that a fresh start back at practice allows me to usually pick moves up faster.
It is a knack, it took me a good part of a year to get the Strike Double down to where I can now do 2 cards every time. Be persistent you'll get it. Brian |

I'll add my voice the chorus about Double Take. When I got serious about mastering a deceptive double lift, this was the DVD that helped me reach this goal. Greg Wilson is also a very entertaining teacher. The routines he teaches on the DVD are worth the price alone.
I use the Nash Knockout Double. Something about the push-off and flipping over the cards stud-style is very deceptive, even for people who are familiar with already familiar with DLs. Wilson teaches this on Double Take, along with many other DLs so you can pick the one that suits your natural style. |

Here's another vote for Greg Wilson's Double Take video. When I showed my new D.L. to a magician friend back then, he said, "I make a living doing this stuff and you do that move better than I do." Greg Wilson is THE teacher for D.L.

I like the ortiz pinky count it is not only good for doubles but as you build the strength in your pinky you can count many I can do about 10-15 quickly and fairly accurately which is of course always important. I believe he teaches it in one of his card shark videos. I to like the GW Double take video I like video better than books for me it is easier to learn. Sean.

Definitely the strike double... It looks so convincing like a page turn and even if you miss it a short regrip never caught attention because to the untrained eye it looks exactly like the opposite as if you're trying to GET RID of another card rather than trying to take it with you. Maybe just because the untrained eye thinks of those technique like a page turn with a book.

If you are struggling to get a DL ready you could spread through the cards to help you prepare. Make up some excuse like "Your card is now lost somewhere in the middle" ect. I think the most important thing is to make your DL's the same as your singles or vice versa.

Strike double: a very knacky but very clean DL.....my DL is good, triple is patchy.
Pinkie count: may be worth learning since with it you are not limited to a double, do 3, 4, 5 you are good to go. |

I like to riffle down the deck, feel for the last 2 cards then do a DL

After reading through this thread and some others on here, I've now abandoned practicing the get ready using the right thumb on the back of the deck (as per RRTCM) in favour of riffling with the left thumb and then transferring the break. I'm conscious that I don't want to practice the 'wrong' method and get into bad habits but it seems to work well for me.
I've looked at the Strike DL (which I presume is that same as Ackerman's Hit DL) but I can't get consistency, so for the moment I'll practice with my thumb as I'm getting better results. I've also seen some variation as to whether you injog or outjog on the turnover (or even neither). Any preferences? |

I use the push off double lift which is performed by David Blaine, methodist simple and IT WORKS (for me at least)
