Indeed it is!
I bought Q&A Evolution and watched it last night. One hour, thirty-four minutes of detailed, step-by-step explanation of how to do Q&A close-up, in a cabaret or on stage, using Scott's ingenious Q&A Evolution system. This is really a power-house method and system! Those who study and apply Q&A Evolution will have the ability to perform a full Q&A routine most anytime, most anywhere. All of the materials needed can be purchased at any dollar shop for $5. The download does not include a full performance of a Q&A routine, but does cover all of the moves and steps in great detail. Scott does provide a bonus video performance (and full explanation) of his 4th Dimensional Telepathy using the Evolution system. My best purchase of the year by far. |

I was going to buy it to be sure if it was different compared to mine. From the trailer, there's no doubt our approaches are really different. I still will purchase it eventually none the less. Thanks for the words on the subject!
Cheers

Very good indeed. A modern and well routined approach to classical methods.

Can anyone who also owns Scott's "My Q&A" compare the two approaches? (Perhaps even Scott himself )
Beyond the obvious differences apparent in the trailer what are the advantages and considerations of this handling over the earlier release? Thanks in advance! Best, Drew

Here are a few of the major differences:
My Q&A requires envelopes and is intended for cabaret or stage. Q&A Evolution does not require the use of any envelopes - only index cards, and is simply much more flexible. Although you could put all of the cards in an envelope, you don't have to. You can use a clear plastic bag, a bowl, a glass, really anything of your choosing to hold the cards. Q&A Evolution can be used for one-on-one readings, sitting, standing, really most any environment, for one person, 10, 30, 50 or much larger audiences. Scott has mentioned previously he has used the Q&A Evolution system for strolling and table hopping. This would not be practical with My Q&A. Readings are also a key part of Q&A Evolution, and Scott provides an overview of the readings framework he uses. I don't recall this being part of My Q&A, but it may have been. With Q&A Evolution, there are handlings where each card is handed back to the person immediately after they are given a brief reading. This is how it works with the one-on-one handling, and you can also do the same with the cabaret or stage handlings if you want (but you obviously don't have to). Q&A Evolution ends completely clean, and you can leave everything behind if you want. There's nothing to hide or find. That's not entirely true with My Q&A. |

I finish watching it this morning.
Its mechanic are clean. Prop is clean. No gimmick of any kind. No move of any kind. Just simple secret handling. Reading is require but help you seal the deal. |

It looks to be based somewhat on a Burling Hull idea, yes?

No it's not Burling Hull. I witnessed the Burling Hull card from Carlyle himself. If I understand correctly from what Carlyle showed me, to use "Burling Hull" require a little fast move.
Let put it this way, from the trailer, index card is folded in half and has four pages to write down. the question mark sign is only written on one page of folded index card. IMHO, Q & A Evolution idea is different from Burling Hull's card. Event though, you have time to peek as much as Burling Hull's card or event more because Scott's structure and handling are deceptive and make sense. Scott also tips the ideas to layered the well-known principle in mentalism. Hope this helps |

Guys,
Thanks for the kind words. This system is something I had kept to myself for years and used (still do) on a regular basis mainly in cabaret but it is very versatile and I have dozens of things I use it for most of which I had intended to include in the video but when I got to over three and a half hours of footage I shelved the idea, just didn't have the time. However recently (due to Max Hazy asking me, thanks Max ) I decided to strip it right back to the basic Q&A routine I designed if for. If you play with it I am sure you'll hit on a few of the close up routines that have evolved over the years. It isn't based on the Burling Hull system, I played with that for years and just didn't get on with it. As for the reading aspect. Readings are something I always use when performing mentalism, whether they are framed around a psychic premise such as tarot, or numerology or framed around a psychological style reading such as graphology or colour readings etc to me that is what makes a Q & A routine but that of course is just my opinion. Anyway guys off on the road again now so thanks again for the kind words. Regards Scott |

Thanks pacozaa, that's exactly what I meant with "there's more to it", because it wouldn't make sense from what I gathered from the trailer. I have no problem with the readings aspect, to me that's even a plus.

Oh right. I thought on the first watching that he was drawing a question mark on the outside and then the inside as well.
My mistake, that's a 2. Does look interesting for sure.

Ok I finally watched it. This is not like the hull card, it's a very different approach. To give an idea, this has aspects of the "hull card" and "one in the chamber" (with the option for something even more classical), but is nothing like them. Plus, it starts and ends 100% clean. It's very unique imo, with specific handlings for the method proposed here. You can grasp everything in the first watch but it will take practice to be done flawlessly. From the way he handles it, is obvious that Scott have been doing it for a long time.
I second everything Stunninger said, so just to not repeat everything, I'll try to add further comments: Pros: Every move and psychology behind it is explained. The "pull out display" is very disarming because there's a reason for it and the display itself shows that nothing dirty happened even though it happened. The way the stack is handled is also very natural thanks to the anatomy of the entire thing going on here. The entire structure proposed when you put it all together has aspects that will make your head spin with ideas for a Q&A act and for the core method here. The method is so flexible it can be done to 1 or 100 people. Cons: It involves preparation (but not in the sense of setup or DIY). I won't be using one of the moves (the "exposed close"), mainly because it brings some concerns to angle in the environments I go. Final words: I'm glad I got it. There are many kinds of Q&A methods, structures and presentations out there. Q&A evolution is pretty much the best of it's kind! It will not replace my current version mainly because mine is more practical (no preparation) and with more mental work over handling, but I'm more than happy to have Q&A Evolution in my arsenal. Thanks Scott!

Hello. I really love Scott's materials, especially I used My Q&A, in keeping with the review Jerome Finley made in the past. In this last work, I have found so many fine details and interesting finesses but I do not think it's an evolution compared to My Q&A. At least we are at the same level. I'm less comfortable with manipulating all the sheets for each reading and then doing an exchange every time.
I'm sorry, too, that there is no live performance in the video to understand how and how smoothly Scott manages live, cards, readings and switch. Even in the 4th telepathy, where there is a short live, were cut the very times when the technique was applied and this a little disappointed me. So my final vote for QA Evolution is still a nice 7 (it remains 10 for My Q&A). |

Darus,
I am of course sorry that Q&A Evolution doesn't fit your needs but of course am very happy that you like My Q&A and my other releases. Both techniques I have used extensively over the years. However my Q&A simply isn't suitable for the cabaret club circuit I found myself working on for many years and that is why Q&A Evolution evolved. It didn't however evolve from My Q&A but instead from an idea shown to me by a very talented mentalist in Glasgow after a lecture I had done many years ago. I also have three other Q&A systems I use but that is a different story. As for the manipulation and switch every time, yep that won't suit everybody but I'll say this, work Q&A close up on a regular basis and you will find that people will want their billet back especially the skeptics in the audience, but again that is just my preference after years of working in a club environment. Finally and I have discussed this before with people who have emailed me so for all of those who are thinking the same thing. I don't include performance footage in my video's. This was a conscious choice for a number of reasons. Firstly when I am performing (which is what I make a living from) I don't have a cameraman and sound man following me around, I am paid by my clients to entertain not make a film to promote my products, secondly I believe the mechanics of any trick is the least important aspect, it is just that, the trick you employ. That trick only becomes a fully fledged piece of magic, mental or psychic theatre when you have spent a huge amount of time scripting and working on the premise. I made the mistake many years ago of sharing my full scripting for a routine only to watch a guy who had seen me lecture perform it word for word at a show I was in the audience for. I look at it like this, if you read the same routine in a book you wouldn't see me performing it and therefore just practicing and working on the routine without any preconceptions of how it should look, will enable each person to create a totally unique piece of theatre. Not saying you wouldn't do that anyway but I have seen so many performers using other peoples material that simply doesn't fit their own persona. My scripting for Q&A Evolution took months to write and was refined over an 8 year period of constant use, I still use it and it is one of the reasons this routine has been so successful for me. As for the snippet of 4th Dimensional Telepathy, same reasons and I do explain in the video those snippets were there ONLY to demonstrate one aspect of the handling. And finally, I'm not Spielberg, I use one camera, I film it myself, I aim to get over just the mechanics and the psychology behind my thinking, I don't have the time (nor the inclination) to add special effects or introduce a studio audience. Add a cameraman, a sound man, a studio and an audience plus studio production and the price would probably have been double. However all that said Darus I'll happily accept a 7 out of 10 many thanks. Many regards Scott |

Of course my Q&A routine now constitutes half my show so that would be at least an extra 45 mins of footage so would be impractical anyway. I will look into how practical it will be to get some performance footage should I release anything else on video. Until then however the next project is my new book Minimalistic, Metaphysical, Mentalism which will bee a physical book and promises to be a big one. Few months more writing to do though. thanks guys. Scott |
