The way I do it so far is not to hit the dollar with a pen which doesn't look normal in my opinion but kind of "screw it in" with added "piercing motion" on the end. What I mean is you start by making a hole where you meet resistance initially, but then resistance is gone as the pen goes through the bill, so you kind of rotating your wrist and pen back and forth and all of a sudden there is this rapid motion forward when a bill is penetrated. I think that looks really convincing, but I have more problem with removal than insertion honestly. I don't like the ripping. Another idea I had was to add a little star shaped piece of a dollar bill to the secret part with some glue ( PENetration pen). Anyone tried it? I haven't glued anything to it yet but I had a piece of a dollar which I placed under the gimmick while pen was in "through the dollar" position and it looks GOOD. |

Anyone that has a Pen-thru-Bill type effect should pick up the John Cornelius video on the Pen Thru Anything. It's full of tips, variations, and routines. You'll get so much more out of your Pen, and it's only $16.

I like the look of the executive pen, but I feel the gimmick is no where near strong enough? I cannot seem to "rip" the pen off with any sound, and as stated above, certain parts go flying.
I have bought the sharpie thru anything....and I feel with a stronger gimmick, much more is possible. I have yet to find my favourite model, however I am favouring the shapie at the moment. |

The Executive is by Far the best on the market. You want the ripping sound so it appears it is tearing thru the dollar. I have never had a problem with the gimmick flying off. Do the penetration closer to the side of the bill and see if that helps. The problem I have with the sharpie is that most people do not carry a sharpie around with them (unless you are a magician) Pens are everday common items.

I use the sharpie only after I have done something with a signed card. Simple switch and it is a miracle. I can then do it again with a different pen where a switch is not needed and reaffirms I can do it with any pen.

My stealh pen gimck wore down and did not look like the other side , if you have one you know what I mean. So I have no tip on the gimmick side, not always noticeable but if someoe does its an obvious tell. And also it does not write anymore and the ink seems to leak out the back from time to time, so I think it exploded. Has anybody else had these problems with stealth pen? Which I think is just about the same as the perfect PENetration, thanks.

So, perfect PENetration, B2 Bomber, and the Stealth Pen are all fully examinable?
perfect penetration and stealth pen even look like similar pens, and the b2 bomber has more pen penetrated right? hmm, decisions decisions. |

I only have the Doug Edwards version. What I like about it are the moves and convincers that are possible. There is a move where the bill is folded over the tip of the pen and the pen is jammed throught the bill. It looks very real and very convincing.
I use a routine with a $10 bill because it has Alexander Hamilton a local stateman who was killed in a duel with his political rival Arron Burr. and people think things get nasty these days! I also have a script for a $5 with Lincoln. It is my understanding that Tenyo will be or have released the Doug Edward's version along with some other classics like Dusheck's Waltzing Matilda.

Perfect PENatration in my opinion is the best.
I use it. is very realistic. The other pens seem to be fakes. |

I've also had problems with the gimmick going airborne.
It seems that on some dollars, its the way it is placed that is partly the cause. One way to avoid this is to "stab" the dollar (OZ does it over at Penguin). Pulling it out of the hole rather than sliding it is risky. I like the idea of screwing it in...may have to try that.

There is another video called "Voodoo Pen" on the handling of pen through bills that is just fabulous, which wil help prevent misshaps with the gimmick flying off! It also comes with a great pen!

The perfect PENetration is great. Also if you buy it from penguin magic on the forum it gives you a more realistic way of doing the penetration.

It hasn't been mentioned here (and perhaps shouldn't, since it's a PENCIL through bill), but I still prefer Misled to my Pen through Bill. I've always loved the visualness of the final penetration and the fact that, when you're done, you can leave everything with them.
It can also be done on stage in a Parlour type situation (which is my stronger venue anyway). I've done entire 45 minute shows and had people tell me the "pencil" trick was the best one. (of course, maybe that's because the rest of it wasn't any good in the first place, but that's for a whole other conversation...) |
