Yes, SF has been around for years with many previous threads here. However, I don't think it has been available through Murphy's previously so that may be new.
SF is a better product than PD. Is it $90.00 better? Not in my opinion. But a moot point to me since I prefer Robson's stick over either of them. |

Very dear for a product used to make up effects. Purchase a good book instead. The more magicians purchase this product the price will go up.

Plasti Dip is virtually identical and at around £15 a can significantly cheaper.
I have used both and PD is the best bet of the two.

This is a price breakdown I made in an older post to give the "Cost" of the full set some perspective

What I have learned about Science Friction is if you plan on updating existing effect or creating a new one. The magic can only be shared if the recipient magician has a license to use the product. I suppose it could be done without one, but creating or updating an effect using Science Friction requires the magician acquiring the method to maintain the effect. It does wear out, and unlike other deck treatments that can be achieved using alternative methods, as has been stated, Science Friction is proprietary.
Personally I cannot imagine any magician who is serious about card magic not having a license for this. It is worth every penny and beyond. I paid for my initial license of $99 and immediately purchased a refill for something like $39 which I have played with it to my heart's content. I would like to start seeing releases of new effects or updates where it is clearly stated Science Friction license required. To give you some kind of idea what I am talking about. Take Omen by Chris Congreave recently released by Penguin Magic. Most have seen the promo. How about a version without any tells. I have one, and it uses Science Friction. I can show both the backs and the fronts, the spectator can pick any card from anywhere in the deck displaying all the backs, and not only that. Are you sure? Would you like to pick the card above it or below it or would you prefer to start over? The card can be selected from the back of the deck at any location. And I should add I do not use the Omen deck. I use the Mastermind deck. The effect ends with the thought of card written on the backs of the joker, the selected card and the prediction. |

Roughing Stick or Robson's Stick?
How many magicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Regardless, for magicians darkness is a time for d'lite.

Have had Robson's stick for a while. It doesn't last that long if you want things to work right. I've used it in a pinch when I've had to make an ID before a gig. Just a warning about Robson's.

And if one doesn't care to spend $95- Plasti-Dip or similar such as the Rust-Oleum version does the trick! No pun intended. Or was it?
