What's open when it's closed, and closed when it's open?

For a second I was thinking "electric circuit" before I relized that I had the definitions of a circuit reversed... hehe

That works from the perspective of traffic on the road. From the river it might be the reverse.

Hmm, good one. I'm thinking along the lines of a dam or a weir that would only be available for public viewing when the flood gates are shut and therefore open when closed and vica-versa..close?

Tower Bridge

Although after I got it I reread John's post and he seems to have got it too. I'd originally dismissed John's post since Scott hadn't mentioned it. It doesn't matter about the perspective from the river, though, since for the ships the waterway may be closed when the bridge is closed but you wouldn't say the bridge is closed in the other sense it would still be open. I think.

MagicGeorge, that's one good example, but I'm looking for a general answer. Just say what type of bridge the Tower Bridge is, and you have the answer.

Ian, I'm not sure whether the railway crossing works, even from the perspective of the train. Sure, the crossing is open to the train when the crossing for the cars is closed, but the crossing really isn't closed to the train when the car crossing is open.
