I was wondering how long both the David Copperfield and Doug Henning fan clubs were in operation and how frequently they sent out materials to their members. Any first hand accounts would be much appreciated.

I'm also looking for scans, copies, or originals of the David Copperfield (1984-1990) and Doug Henning fan club newsletters. If you have these or know of anyone that does, please send a PM. Thanks!

Never heard of a Fan Club for either of these magicians.

David Copperfield only started a magicians organization for volunteers to perform in hospitals and help patients get back to normal by learning some easy magic tricks. Don't know if he still does this, easy to find out, as it was his agents website, years ago.

My opinion is Fan Clubs is a thing of the past, the Internet kind of killed them as well.

There was a Fan Club for David Copperfield in the early 90's. You paid something like $35-$50 dollars to join and received a bag with all sorts of goodies inside (i.e. folder with an autographed 8 x 10 black & white Copperfield photo, clothes pin button, latest insider show developments etc.). But as Bill said, the internet has replaced this through websites. Websites deliver all the info you could possibly ever want on your favorite performer. You have access to videos, current tours and show schedules, workshops and lectures, email newsletters, all their social media and even who they are currently dating .. lol

David Copperfield is the namesake for my S.A.M. #161 assembly.
Once in a while during a meeting he will address our members by speakerphone.
Quite a thrill for all the members.

I think I remember the Copperfield fan club still being around into the early 2000's... I had looked into joining because members could order VHS tapes of his past specials (now they are all on youtube) but when I looked into it the club was "not currently taking new members" which meant it was closing down. Ha. I'm pretty sure I looked into right after seeing his Journey of a Lifetime Tour... which was like 2001 I think.

Doug Henning Fan Club in the 80's was about $10.It included a gold foil stamped certificate, and membership card and a personalized signed photo.

I also have a signed poster I wished I took better care of.But I can't recall if it cost extra or came for the $10. It was the one with Doug floating over flowers.
As a kid, I hung it on the wall with tacks and blu tac. Being so inexpensive one did not think it would become collectible so it has faded Smile

I did not recall newsletters but it has been a while. Seems like there was at least 8

Dear Jimhlou,
Dani Stall was dedicated to badmouthing Copperfield on Facebook at any chance she had... I suspect she is not a good candidate to be the president of his fan club LOL

Didn't know that - I think she's affiliated with Doug Henning.
