I thought that guy just flat out sucked. That vaudville aces routine was just lame and I would have walked out. His card productions were basic and totally noticeable. He really needs to work on the pop out moves and the long distance spinner. Even his fan at the beginning was weak. I can't believe I just watched that entire clip. He definitely should have had someone critique that. I mean if he was just doing it at home and used a webcam or something I could understand, but that looked like a bigger presentation then it should have been. The candles and suit---all unnecessary for that garbage performance. And yes that guy was annoying---what a way to start a Monday.

I liked his WC Fields & the Video production level was very high.
I think Pete says it best,"Pretty ordinary stuff... needed a change of pace too." Cheers Chris |

I thought this was an excellent teaching video. It teaches how poorly effects can be, if not practiced enough and not performed well.
I normally am not the type to bash someone's work, but this guy was a perfect example of why you should practice, practice, and practice some more, until you decide to release footage of your performance. Some of his patter made no sense, some dragged on forever only to lead to a weak effect, his fans were not tight at all, his moves were obvious, bad, real bad. How about that ending for "his" Ambitious Card Routine? What excuse did he have for going to his pocket when planting the card? It made no sense. He wasn't putting something away or anything!

I think William Shakespeare said it best: "What on earth was that all about!?"
The top change near the start of his ACR wasn't bad. I didn't mind his patter, but needs to work on technique. Of course the camera angles and editor's cuts helped him out quite a bit. At least he tried, but he's gone public too soon.

Yeah, he did try, The effort was definitely put forth. The biggest thing that bothered me was the patter. He seemed like he had his jokes and one-liners down and ready to go, but during the performances, he wasn't as prepared. The Nut and Bolt routine could have been alright, but he just kind of did the moves without commenting on the fact that the nuts were appearing threaded onto the bolt. It was hard to tell what was going on there.
In his bio, it says he has been performing proffesionally for 18 years. I hope my close-up is more impressive than his when I reach the 18 year mark. Did anyone else watch any of the other videos on his site? Based on those, I'd guess his 18 years were more spent on hypnotism acts and stage stuff, rather than the close-up. Just a guess though.

Ordinary to someone experienced in card handling, but for the average patron he is probably a mind blower. Bash if you must, but then do it better if you can. Et tu Magi.

He didn't need to explain what he was doing when he did the multiple shift. When you push the aces in and cut it just looks fair. It shouldn't be mentioned, just done as if it was a natural thing.
Saying "Look I'm just pushing the aces in and cutting the deck" people begin to assume otherwise

I will agree with that, the Shoelace and Ring were decent. He did some cool things with the Swing-A-Ring gimmick, which I own and enjoy.
Honestly, I completely forgot that he did the ring and string routine. Why? Probably because I was so unimpressed with the other routines and caught up in their problems, that the one decent routine got lost. Shame. And I think the point to all these posts, is not, "hey let's bash this guy and make fun of him to make ourselves feel better!". We all either performed at his level in the past, perform at that level now, or are still trying to get to his level. But I think we are all just amazed that he would perform to a worldwide audience through his online video, while he is still at that level.

And if I'm not mistaken he does the Multiple Shift closer to the way it was originally intended, i.e. you simply cut the Aces or whatever cards to where you want them, without the need for a Hindu Shuffle as most people tend to do. But I stand to be corrected.

I didn't mean to bash him on a personal level, but when you make a huge show of yourself you kind of put yourself out on the lamb. 18 years of professional magic--I would've asked for my money back. The card stunts are what bothered me---he was not very good. The other stuff was ok. I just can't believe the response this thread has produced. Whe you do something like he did you make yourself a mark.

WOW! I only got four years of experience and I'm better than him. I wish I had as much money as he does though, that way I can get videos of myself on the web.

You're right. But wait! I did learn from him. I learned that Ace productions can be very boring. Maybe I'm being too harsh. I'll just shut up.

If someone is going to show themselves off by putting a video on the internet, at least make sure they can spread the cards out in a fan properly! He didn't even learn any good pop-up flourishes for when the cards 'jumped' to the top. I mean, he just turned the card over!!
By the way that trick wiht the four aces apparently jumping around the pack is taken from Roberto Giobbi's Card College Volume 1... unless of course this guy invented that routine first and Giobbi took it off him....hmmmm -Nik

However, he covered his hands over the cards with the backs to the audience...that's shifty (no pun intended) The vernon multiple shift is intended to be done faces up with everything in view, not shielded by the hands, or at least all the photos that I've seen describe it present it that way. I myself am still working on doing the shift better, but Vernon would not be proud of that guy's version of his move.

It's no worse than the usual stuff (guff) that ends up on the television.
