Thanks, Frank!

I've never used the Clones bit. I'll make a little note in my "tips" file!

The reason nobody mentioned it may be a simple matter of context. Would kids today even know what it is?

Interesting thought. There is also the spongeball from phone/tablet start. This is where a video of a ball grows on screen and is "plucked" off.

I guess that I'm too old fashioned! Being retired, I don't do much performing anymore!

Frank...I still use a "dumb" phone! hee hee But, I can understand how the phone/tablet idea would really "play"!

For more years than I could count! I used the purse frame, in high schools, for an ultra simple, 2 sponge ball routine. It always played well, but, I haven't worked a high school in 15 years!

Maybe, I had better use the purse frame in my very occasional senior citizen gigs! (I think Danny would agree. heehee)

Nothing wrong with purse frames, they just might require more context now is all.

My partner Tom uses purse frame all the time to GREAT effect with ALL audiences. I will say that he is the best with it that I've ever seen and his timing and interactions are great. One of his best bits is having a child reach in the purse (frame) and take out either a coin of sponge ball while the parents are watching. Since neither the Child (till just as they are touching the object and it just seems to appear there rather than seeming palmed) or the Parents can see where it is coming from, it gets a wonderful reaction.

Purse frame works but you have to put in the time and routining.

Martin Gardner in Genii has an article about performing magic for kids. Has a great coin routine. As Oslund says, Do your homework!

Recently I started doing coin in plastic (water) bottle using PK principle. The penetration moment where they both see and hear the coin completely knocks the socks off the pre-tweens. And the teens and tweens go nuts when they find that the coin is too big to fit through neck of the bottle. Response is as strong as sponges.

Sponge bunnies wins hands down! But it has to be your closer. If not the kids will all want to experience it themselves. I also do Laflin's rabbit from the hat (using a TT), and the ickle pickle ring on chain. You may think it's stupid, but kids love it!

I've been using ring on rope lately to great effect. It uses the ickle pickle move at one point. Right now it's just the Alien Ring routine with me scripting

So not including sponge bunnies...

I would go with ACR to wallet.

Why?

Kids like card tricks
I work it so they "help" me by snapping their fingers, making a gesture, etc, to bring the card to the top. Parents dig this too, their child gets to take part.
It has a simple plot.
They're amazed every time the card appears on top of the deck.
Pulling the signed card out of the wallet is a real stunner.
They get to keep the card.

I always did this for kids in the Children's Hospital here in town and it always went over well. In hospitals you can't use sponges. I learned quickly that kids can, and do, like card tricks; contrary to what some may say.

But the bunnies would still be the first choice for tables. Smile

Jim...'ring on chain' --Is this the ring that is dropped and becomes tied to the chain (or rope) with a girth hitch? I note that a 'trick' like this was advertised, but I can't remember the 'name'.

This 'trick' has been "around' for years. I used it often at Scout camps. When the ring 'flips' and becomes tied to the chain/rope, I immediately DROP, ONE END of the rope. IMO, it 'looks better'......

YES! It's fascinating! And, kids definitely like it!!!!!!

That's it Dick. I actually bought a 3' light pull chain and a ring at Home Depot. The chain is a circle so you're not able to drop one end - still lots of fun.

Actually, I'd like to revise my answer. I'm looking through some DVDs and I'd definitely perform David Regal's variation of Ambitious Card, Tenacious climber, AKA, the Puppy Trick.

I forgot all about it. What a great card trick for children and adults to have fun with.

I'm going to work this for a while and see how it goes.

I would normally say my sponge balls! But if you're in a restaurant setting, maybe something to think about is the germ transfer on sponge balls.. Especially kids. We all know kids are dirty, so if your routine required the kids to hold the sponges (which all of us do) maybe take into consideration how dirty the sponges are and how often they are held by different people.

That being said my #2 is egg bag!

Working in a restaurant I always worry about germ transfer. That's why I clean mine periodically and use different ones

Tear-able by Jim Pace. Torn and restored napkin. Plays great for younger kids. For older kids, I use my normal material.
