Cameron - neat effect, and well taught, as usual! One idea I have (and have not yet tried) is a time machine presentation. Once you discern the identity of their card and the count of the secret number, and cut that packet to the top as Cameron shows, you can even skip some of the minor sleight of hand by saying, ok, now I'm going to rewind time. So I'll do everything you did, but in reverse. First, I'll cut the deck (then cut those cards to the top). Next, I'll think of a secret number and give you a packet to deal. I have no way of knowing what your number is right? Then hand them the packet. Can you deal/count those out please? They react to the number being correct - then you say, but wait, the FIRST thing you did was think of a card from a packet you mixed up. What was that card? They say it out loud and you tell them to flip over the top card in their hands. I might prefer this presentation as I feel getting the identity of the card is more impressive than the number of cards in the packet, and in Cameron's original version it's a bit downplayed. Anyway, nice trick, just an idea to play with for an alternate presentation.

Hi,
I like and own lot of Cameron's work and am very interested in this one. Is this suitable for walkabout corporate or table work and can the reset be done quickly, openly, between performances and straight after performing other effects with the same deck? If so, it seems it could be an opener for walk around. Many thanks, Paul McCaig.

The most impressive and meaningful part, the mind reading, is treated as a throw away effect. Even worse for me, he says as he moves into the sleight of hand, "and now for the skill part..." indicating there was little or no skill to the mind reading. For my application the effect worked best as: A. Cards counted, first revelation. B. In depth mind reading to get the card, doing a bit of cold reading along the way. C. Have them turn over the top card as a kicker ending. Logistically the kicker is in danger of muddying the water here, but theatrically it is the perfect focus of everyone's attention on the revelation of their "thought of card". Another part I had to remove was the logistically flawed cutting twice of the deck. (Cut the chosen/thought of card into the deck, then cut the rest of the counted cards into the deck. This action could very easily put the chosen/thought of card very near the top or bottom of the deck. Structurally not a good thing to have hanging out there for someone to grab a foothold of in thinking they know how it's done. But all that is just some small loose ends to tie up in a particularly nicely structured card feat. |

The reason I have them cut the deck twice is for fairness. But you certainly don't have to do it that way.
I highly disagree that cutting the exact number of cards they are merely thinking of is less impressive than divining their card, though. I think they are equally strong. It's a thought of number that they haven't named out loud. I also don't believe I reveal the card in a throw away fashion nor would I encourage anyone to do it that way. It's an amazing moment. But I am happy that people are customizing this to suit their needs. That's what everyone should do!

I liked it and left a great review on Penguin.
As to the comments above....not a problem for me since I rarely perform a routine exactly as presented. I always present it in style that fits with my character, the rest of my effects and the particular audience I am performing for. Dan M. |

Thanks, Dan! And that's how it should be. I want everyone to add their own touches to this trick! I've been messing with it for four years and I still haven't stopped discovering new ideas!

I'm curious why you can't just ask a straight up question, such as, "Cameron, did you give credit on the download?", or, "Counter Intuitive looks similar to ______. Is Counter Intuitive a variation of _______ and if so, is ______credited?"
It sounds like you are implying something untoward? Quote: On Jan 13, 2018, Bill Cushman wrote:

Deceit Treat was one of my best purchases last year so I had to buy this and was not disappointed. I really appreciate your performances and tutorials, Cameron - cool, confident and cheese free.

You could also instead of cutting twice place the rest of the cards on top of the deck. That way when you fan the cards towards yourself you would see the correct Ace first all the time.

I finally grabbed the Download to supplement the PDF version and I think I am going to fan first every time to get a glimpse of where in the deck the part is I am looking for. I ran thru this several times and almost 50% of my trial runs, I ended up having to get two or three cards from the bottom back up to the top before I do the swing cut. Fanning them first is a great idea. Like a quick peek to see if an adjustment is needed or if two cards need reversed by a cut.
Great effect though, as well as Deceit Treat.
