In a close-up situation like this, I love using Banachek's Business Card Epic - it's so simple and direct, and perfect in conjunction with DFB.

I frame the effect by talking about how when people think of something impossible, it's common to say that it's a 1 in a million odds.

The great thing is - if you use three lists of 100 objects - 100x100x100 = 1,000,000! So that's a nice justification for using a collection of 100 object lists I have on my phone.

Key thing is, I only use one of the lists to force an object and get one-ahead. The other two times, I'm using the lists legitimately.

(NOTE: I'm not going to go in to all of handling and procedure for mental epic, and also any mental epic routine can be utilized, but like I said, Banachek's Business Card Epic is fantastic for this, only three cards and a pen...and of course, your phone)

I have the spectator open the list "100 Top Travel Destinations". They look over the list, mentally select one, I write down my prediction.

I have them open a second list "100 Top Bands", they mentally select one, I write down the prediction.

When it comes to the third list, I take back the phone for a moment and close the Notes app. I explain that people might think that certain choices are the obvious ones that everybody selects - for example, for Travel Destinations, a lot of people probably select Paris. So to eliminate that possibility, the last selection they'll make won't be by looking over the list, instead, they'll call out a random number. But before they select a number, I write down the last prediction.

Finally, they call out a number between 1 and 100. We open the Notes app, they go to "100 Top TV Shows" and they find the show that corresponds to that number.

To end, you reveal the first prediction is correct - a 1 in 100 chance. The next prediction is correct, a 1 in 10,000 chance, and finally the third prediction, it's correct - a one in a million chance!

I like this because using three lists with 100 items on each is totally motivated by the 1 in a million presentation. For the third selection, the use of a number instead of picking an item from the list is motivated by the fact that you want the selection to void of any influence, and since the prediction is written before the number reveal, it takes the heat off of the need to know the number.
